    Advice Needed For Coburn CS-7

Lately, I've had problems with axis when using my Coburn CS-7. Usually on single vision scripts, it's nothing that can't be remedied with turning the lens just a bit (unless it's an odd shaped frame). This problem is most apparent on flat-top bifocals and trifocals. I'm very careful when I'm decentering my lens to not tilt the flat top lines, but they still come out a bit crooked. On right lenses, the bifocal is tilted down and on left lenses it is tilted up.
Does anyone here have any advice on how I might be able to make an adjustment on my CS-7 to take care of this? My suspician is that it might have something to do with the clamp for my finish blocks maybe needing an adjustment. I have no manual for it, and have searched online, but have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated.

i'll try to dig up a manual for that. look around the clamp for a set screw that would allow you to rotate it. i'll get back to ya'.

They make an axis checker tht you will find helpful in calibration. You block a lens with a straight line and put it on this device to check axis and up,down,in,out acuracy. $75-145 depending on your block type.

    easy as pie

The CS- 7 is pretty easy to correct any axis issues,

one, you need to have an axis check card (its a small peice of acrylic) with lines that run at 90 / 180, honestly you can make up one of these yourself.

set your inset to obviously 0 on the cs7 , layout the card at 0 with all the lines "perfect" at 90 / 180

now dont just do one test , run about 4 / 5 tests and see where exactly the issue is , to adjust and compensate you should see two allen key holes on each side of the blocking plate.

Adjusting will take time if its your first time,

tips. Do not loosing the allen keys all the way
    - replace your blocks (if metal once a year / plastic every month)
    - this should be routine maintenance so you dont have any issues period, use the test card daily to ensure axis is perfect

    good luck

you need the axis grid that gemstone is talking about.

Before you try to correct the axis.

First to make sure the axis is off on the CS-7 without question.
And then to give you a more accurate calibration.

It's usually the plate that needs fixing. But you can check the axis on the arm by gently twisting it, it should be on 0 axis.

Check the plate to see if it's loose too.

But i don't advise trying to fix it without the axis grid.
