    Our Staunch Friends

Staunch is defined in the dictionary as Fine, Steadfast, and True . I never new this word (or if I did, I never understood its meaning) until Lately. Its all over the news. Everytime I hear the words Great Britain I hear the wordStaunch . I cant think of a better word to describe my feelings for The great Continent. Yes our allies are many (Canada who has given me great things Like Molsen Golden and Bruce Cockburn, Australia who has given my kids the crocodile hunter and the list goes on) But I must say I am particularly proud to be associated these days with The British.Tony Blair has been incredible. Allow me to take this time to thank all optiboarders from abroad for supporting him. And while I am at it let me thank you all for other great things such as Monty Python, Harry Potter. and James Bond. (For what its worth). And , I have saved the best for last, Thank you for Maria!

Heck, I'm even willing to forgive them for burning down the White House in 1814! :)

I may be willing to forgive the 24 August 1814 White House burning episode... however, I will never forgive them for producing the Beatles and Spice Girls :D !

Heck though, any country that could produce the likes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has to be at least adequate! Besides, given the relative size of their little island, you have to give Brits credit- at one point "the sun never set" on the British Empire!

    Pete,
Being Scottish born and a fellow Sherlock Holmes fan, I agree wholeheartedly. Doyle was in fact a Scot. Though I can't agree with you about the Beatles! If I can switch nationalities for a moment (I do this quite often), I would like to put in a plug for the often forgotton Aussies (though not forgotton by Night Train I'm pleased to say). We are a big country but with a small population. Australia, was one of only four countries to offer troups (together with Britain and Canada). Our first lot go off next week I believe. And, we had nothing to do with the 1814 White House incident!!!
    Regards
    David

Well, you have given us Charlotte Church. I am not the biggest fan of opera but she has a beautiful voice that makes opera tolerable.
