    Idea Brain Storm !!

    BRAIN STORM !!

I figured out a way to make a buck or several from the internet sales :D :D

I'll set up a small hole-in-the-wall office in the Mall with a sign that says "We Help You With Your Online Purchase" and my usual prices below:

    $35.00 to measure PD
$35.00 to help you get the right size frame
$50.00 to verify that the lenses are made properly
    $65.00 to fit the frame

    I could stand doing 6 - 8 of these a day. :D :D

All I would need is space, a dispensing desk, pupilometer, lensometer, and hand tools.

    Now that's an interesting combination.

You go girl - this could be what the internet guys have been missing out on. You could call yourself an "optical consultant".

Eeew!!!! That just makes me sick thinking about it!!! But you do bring up an interesting point. We can't stop online retailers but maybe we can find a way to make money off of them.

Will you also help them get the company to correct their mistakes when the glasses come in wrong? I think $250 for that sounds fair. :bbg:

And beer and a donut sounds tasty!

$25 per hour of attempted contact time. No reason to limit your income.

I have had several patients tell me I have to fix their online glasses because they have been trying to call for a week and nobody will answer the phone.

We joke about this, but there are those retail locations that put your stuff on Ebay for you for a fee. This may not be such a farfetched idea.

Now Jacqui, if you REALLY want to make money, you need to franchise the idea!! Then FezzJohns can buy you out!!

Yes, I have been considering francising the idea !! Just think for only $473,000.00* you too can have a chance to make millions from the internet eyeglass sales racket. Don't wait, areas are be taken quickly and yours may not be available much longer.

Note: All proceeds go to the "Help Jacqui retire in Tahiti fund"

*Optiboard members do of course receive a customary 99% discount.

Now we are going towards the correct answer. You actually could do this. We already do it with VSP, right. VSP sold the lenses and we only collect the dispensing fee.

So much of what we provide is a service; something that they don't provide on the internet. It's not that the internet guys are underselling us. They are just not providing any time, service, or expertise, or warranty, or frames on display, or advice, or measurements or . . .

These internet guys are offering exactly what OUR wholesale labs offer. Just the lenses and frame. Maybe some of them are our wholesale labs.

It takes a special person to enjoy this wonderful treat from the backwoods of Wisconsin. Yes, some do dip them.

On-line sales bother me too, so why not use them to make a buck or 219 from them. They are not going to go away, so find a way to make a profit from them.

Yea why not make a profit off them? Everyone here hates on-line opticals. But people are still going to use them. If there is a way someone else can get a cut of their moohla--GOOD FOR THEM. Set up a mall kioske (right next to LC), lap top and pd stick and your in business. It would at least give us some control over the business.

    Fee for service...

Here's how I would do it---

$100 (minimum) first 2 hours-- 25 cents a mile-- I go to you!

I bring a tray of 8 basic mens and 8 basic womens shapes and sizes.

We go online and they choose the frame and I recommend the lens and measure with the usual disclaimer that it's not my fault if there are problems. $50 each additional hour.

    Big Smile

I would sell them all services included for the next 5 years for a flat $ 500.00 per couple. :hammer:
