According to my vast resources at both HOYA and Essilor (one rep each), there are no 1.7 or 1.74 photochromic lenses available in the US.

    Maple Leaf Alert! EH!

How about using those vast resources and checking to see if they are available in Canada...where the OP posted from?

That was the reason I specified US. My powers are no good north of the border. Too much Molson years back.

Only if there were a 1.74 front-side spherical photochromic...

I believe that the highest index photochromic available is still 1.67.

How to get a new product....

This thread is a good start....if ecp's and labs talk to their lens manufacturing reps...it will come....

Once 1.74 ultra high index lens material is established as a clear lens with a few percent share of the market (it is still a relatively new kid on the block for now)....the manufacturers will then produce a photochromic product. It helps a lot if ecp's and labs bubble up the requests to their favorite LM's

I believe this new material is perfect to fast track straight into direct surfacing. No need to produce a bevy of PALS when a high quality spherical SFSV will suffice. Then as Rick stated, a photochromic blank will be available.

thing is, 1.74 has been available in Canada for well over 5 years now, I have probably done less than 5 pairs. Of course, we get 1.67 at 1.0mm centre here.
