Worthwhile things you did in Summer 2008

Read Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth
    Saw Batman The Dark Knight
Hiked the highland and falls trails at Ricketts Glen State Park
and spent time with my kids

Redid my front porch in Choicedek composite lumber.

Installed a thermostatically controlled gable fan in my attic.

Cut down our dead dogwood and replaced it with a river birch.

    Painted our kitchen.

    Mowed the lawn a bunch.

Didn't get stung by yellowjackets, and thus live another year.

Stopped working Saturday after 50 years. Actually got to go fishing a few times so far.

    Chip

8/30/08 Took my first kyaking trip. Learned a great lesson. Those of us with bad backs should make sure that they fit the Kyak, have a good stiff upright backrest and every foot peg, etc. is in adjustment. Once I tried the fourth Kyak and got everyting adjusted I was fine, but the first one almost put me in traction.

    - took my very first holiday on my own to Seattle
    - did the CPOT practical exam and passed
    - took a matting course to learn how to mat and frame my photography
    - got a mat cutter for my birthday from friends who apparently need some matting done!!

Now I'm waiting anxiously by the phone for news of my niece's impending birth...:D

    * went to the North Plain Elephant Garlic Festival and had the Garlic Ice Cream (not bad at all but then, I'm weird)

    * went to Seattle and visited the Space Needle and Pike's Market

    * finally got a digital camera (took me awhile to figure out where the film
    is inserted ;) )

    * participated in 3 parades ... PHEW!

    * haven't killed the flowers on the patio yet ... (my goal is to keep them alive until Labor Day)

Redhot Jumper And the waiting is now over!

So my most worthwhile event of this summer:

The birth of my niece, Isabella Rose, at 8:09 pm on the 16th. She's 8 lbs 1 oz, and she has all 10 fingers and all 10 toes. And quite the set of lungs to boot! My brother sounds absolutely stunned that he's really a father now. My sister-in-law is doing fine. I'm hoping to visit them at the hospital tomorrow to see the little sweetie myself.

    :)

I think it is against posting guidelines to post pictures of food that looks that good unless you have enough to share.;)

    • Partied on the Yucatan with five girlfriends celebrating our 50th birthdays.
    • Landscaped the entire property (or rather paid someone to do it).
    • Played with my grandchildren.
    • Lost 5 pounds.
    • Gained it back drinking beer on the deck with friends.
    • Enjoyed the best thing about Michigan.....Summer!

Watched as much of the Olympics as possible with my daughter and my husband...he has been very ill, and it was nice to see him getting interested in the events and medals.

Went to PA and sailed on the lake, jumped off a few bridges, ate tons of ice cream, and read a book each day of my vacation.

Read and LOVED Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.
Went boating almost every sunday and did not rip my eye open while flying off the inner tube.

Went to Knobles amusement park in PA, and Lagoon amusement park in UT.

Nursed my cat back to health after his diabetes almost killed him, and he is now off insulin. 14 and going strong!

There is more but these are my favorites.
I love knowing about all of the fun you all had.....you guys deserve lots of good times and happy memories!

Went to one of the largest water parks in the US. It was located just outside of San Antonio on I-35.

Started a new job that I love.
    Visited Wilkes-Barre...twice.
Crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel 4 times.
Gave my guestroom to a friend when she lost her apartment. She and her son moved to their new home today.
Attended a symphony concert at the oceanfront.
Walked the Seawall Art Show in Portsmouth with my Mom.
    Bought more antique eyeglasses.
Wrote some interesting CE's and a couple of articles.
Summer went by waaaaay too fast!

Read "the Coalwood Way" by Homer Hickam, went on a carribean cruise, Worked hard building our cottage, now pretty much done on the outside,
went on a 3 day salmon fishin' trip to the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Leaving now for the labour day long weekend to work more on the cottage, which should be done, more or less, next year.
Learned to weld and cut metal, badly, and caught the smallest sturgeon ever recorded.
BTW, Nettie, McCourt has a sequel, "Tis" but I enjoyed Angerla's Ashes much more. You will enjoy Homer Hickam's books immensly if you get the opportunity to read them.
