    Help

Hi all I am new to the field and have a question for you all.
I have a client a bit nutty I will admit but nonetheless, she is an interior designer that just picked up her new Kodak Unique Trivex lenses. Yes, she sees excellent etc but she sees the ever so slight cast of yellow to the lens. Do you have any suggestion as what to put her in, she claims she has several pairs that are not that way yet when asked to show me she refuses. I am curious is it the coating or material? please help this newbie optician satisfy the eccentric designer!

    Hello meg!

I'm not sure about this...but, like you, I think if you were able to see her old lenses, it might shed some light on the subject...do you know anything about the lenses she wore in the past? Do the new lenses have an edge polish? I've had pt's tell me that they see "colors" when the edges are polished. Do you know what material she was wearing before?

I've heard people complaining about seeing yellow with poly, never trivex though. Check her old lenses, it'll give you a good idea what's happening.

I had a patient complain about the same thing. I ended up swithing her to Autograph with a Carat Advantage instead of the Kodak A/R. I guess the Kodak A/R's residual color was causing the issue.

Do the lenses in question have AR?

    More info needed...

If the lenses have A/R that could be to blame. An A/R with Blue residual color sometimes makes a lens seem yellowish.

If the lenses have no A/R, you may be able to tint the yellow out with a splash tint of purple. Mind you not to add color, just to offset the yellow a touch.

Old UV protection (not needed with Trivex, but its possilbe someone dropped in the tank) used to leave a yellow cast as well.

Of all the materials made, trivex will be as clear as any material. If compared to any older pair directly, I bet they are all yellow. Most lenses will yellow to some degree over time from exposure to UV.

If she won't bring in old pair it sounds like crazyitis!

I believe that Unique comes only w/ AR. So they weren't UV coated.
A side-by-side comparision of edged Hoya Phoenix vs Younger Trilogy proved to me that the Phoenix was clear white and the Trilogy had a very slight yellow hue. THis was only noticable when looking at the polished edge.
Are they Trans brown? Instashades Brn? These will have a yellow hue in Trivex, even for the Trans VI.

all uniques come with ar. it's got more of a green cast to it. but that's not the problem here, because if anything a slightly yellow cast would only increase visual acuity and not be noticeable after five min of wear. i'm affraid you've run up against the toughest optical aberation in the industry. . .
