    Pech and Digital Round Segs

Ok...I need some help folks (in more ways than one).

I must be on too much crack. I swear that I heard or read that Pech Optical is going to be doing the digital round segs in all materials similar to what Three Rivers Optical is doing. But of course, I can't locate where I read or heard that.

So...is it time I lay down the glass pipe, or are my Coleridge like dreams a reality?

It wouldn't surprise me if they were doing them. I worked for Bob Pech back when he was a manager for Walman's and this is the way he thinks. Call their office and find out for sure.

    False Alarm!!

    Oh boy...my worst fears confimred!

Time to lay down the pipe. I called Pech and the helpful staff knew nothing of what I was babbling.

Or did they? I bet they are going to do it and don't want the cat outta the bag.

    Paranoid...no not me!

I don't know if they have a DAC generator or not, it's the only one (I think) that can cut them.

I just got back last night from Pech and they can do limited round segs today. It is not released to customer service at this point. Please tell me what you are looking for and the parameters of the rx with frame info; I will forward it to the right person to get an answer back to you.

Say you want a 1.67 transitions and no one makes a round seg blank in that configuration. 3 Rivers will take a 1.67 SV trans blank and carve a custom round seg in the back side. You can get it up to 45mm in diameter. It is very hard to see in the lens. More hidden than a regular round seg, IMO.

    Kstraker is right on!

They can also "blend" the line so it really vanishes!

    check it out here:

    www.threeriversoptical.com

1-800-756-2020 (maybe they could fax you a info sheet!

They might have it listed as "Free-Lens Series".

    Hmm...the website doesn't list it?

Anyway..it is available in any resin or polycarbonate material, the seg is customizeable from 10 to 45mm, add from +0.50 to +5.00

There are other labs that can do it, they just don't advertise as much as Three Rivers.

I get alot of my patients from MD's offices and it seems that many of them they have specialty needs, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can to try and help solve some of their problems..well, specs-wise anyway :D

Opti-board members have enlightened me more times than I can count!

    invisible

glass round segs,IE kryptoks, will also barely show, especially in the higher base curves and if there set down 4 to 5 mm

At one time about 1919, they were actually advertised that way, i had the ad in my hand a few weeks ago ani i sent it to someone who i thought would want it.

There is a local lab here in Texas that produces the round seg on the back. They advertise in their pricing that it is available in four different diameters but they are good to work with and surely can customize sizes. I think they can even move the seg around for golfers. They can also make that -7.00 and higher look really good in a wrap using a higher bc. It is American Vision in Dallas. 214-352-3550

The mind is a terrible thing.... and it must be stopped in our lifetime before somebody gets seriously killed.
