    Varilux Sport?!?

I spoke to Arlene (Varilux rep) yesterday and she told me about the Varilux Sport lens that's coming out soon. I asked her if this was going to be a free-form design lens. She told me the entire lens design is digitally ground onto the the back surface of the lens. The front base will be a simple aspheric curve and all the curves will be on the back, yes even the add.

Pardon me if this is old news, but I am shocked by this.
Won't this lead to higher order aberrations or will free-form design eliminate this? And have other lens manufacturers used this method aready?

This is obviously a cheaper way to make PALs since the lab only has to carry semi-finished blanks in a particular base curve not the base/add spectrum of inventory.

    I THINK ... It is Varilux Physio F 360

It need more parameter to make Lens. etc.
    1. Pantoscopic tilt
    2. Face form angle
    3. Vertex Distance

BUT it is the new comer in this segment Lens.
I think ... need more time for trial and error.

Old maker in this segment of Lens is Rodenstock ILT.
