For Those Optical Historians Out There

Dick Whitney has updated his American Optical web site with lots of new stuff for those interested in the history of eyewear in the US.

    http://www.dickwhitney.net/RBWAOHistoryIndex.html

    In particular check out the:

    AO History Chronology Slideshow -

    and

    Optical Heritage Museum slideshow

The museum is a must see for anyone interested in ophthalmic optics. I believe that we all owe Dick Whitney much thanks for all that he has done to preserve a great part of our heritage.

If any of you can visit Southbridge, MA drop me an email as I live just a few miles up the road from the museum. Perhaps we can have a nice cup of tea.

    Thanks for the website info!

Thank you for the incredibly interesting link - I have added it to my "Optickal Allusions" bookmark folder.

I hope to make a daytrip to Southbridge one of these days, I've heard wonderful things about it.

    More Opcon A please...

I remember touring the plant when I was a student in 1976.

I found the most interesting part was where they molded artificial eyes. They would place a couple of red threads in the "sclera" to naturalize it.

Hmmm- Wonder how much thread they'd need for a Fezzster eye on a Sunday morning.

    You beat me to it!

    Great link Dick!

I've been on that site about 18 times in the last two weeks! I was checking:

1.) For Arthur Ashes frame that Harry J keeps alluding to
    2.) Ultex research
    3.) Abbe info

Mr. Whitney has provided a great resource!

Thanks for posting Rbaker, and....tea is on me if I ever get up that way!

    Hey Harry Chiling.....road trip?

    :cheers::cheers::cheers:

I just checked the site and sent a thank you to Dick Whitney. I remember some of this from my time working at AO Southbridge, but there are also a lot of new things that either weren't there or had been dicontinued.
