Could be very advantageous if you have the capability to narrow a search for say a particular eye size, bridge size, color, metal or plastic, etc. I have converted over to using the framesdata cd, which has those options and it is wonderful.

A catalogue on a CD does cost a fraction of the price of catalogue. The shipping cost's also a fraction of the transport of a catalogue.

The print and pictures are most probably better on a CD than on paper.

It can be updated and replaced more often. We are in the age od electronics and electronic communication.

I have gone even further............I have not made a catalogue for my products in 8 years. All of it is on my website and accessible in seconds. It can also be changed and updated any time of every day, so nobody has to wait for the once a year printed catalogue.

At least it's not on a 8 track tape! :D

Safilo is a four letter word here, but it wouldn't bother me if all my vendors went on-line or offered a CD. I've got a laptop I can tote around the dispensary. It would keep me from looking for catalogs and I think it would be easier to get timely updates.

Now if they would just lower their prices to reflect their savings from printing and mailing catalogs.....

Ditto. We can't seem to get new catalogues anymore. Many don't even keep their cataloges current anymore. We have to go online. We carry the wireless laptop around the dispensary. Some websites are very good like Oga/Koali. Some are bad.

I've actually started using their website to verify frame availability and show colors etc to the patient. Also REM's and Kenmark's. All three let me call the colors up and they're kept current, so I know what's really available.

I may be wrong, but from what my reps have told me they aren't even sending out a CD. They have updated their website at www.mysafilo.com so that you can download the new catalog quarterly with only the frame lines you actually carry. There is a search feature, but I haven't tried it yet. But anything has to be better than having that big catalog.

I don't see why any frame manufacturing is still printing catalogues. Website is the way to go. How many times have you gotten a new frame and it's not in the catalogue that was printed 6 months ago? The companies that use spiral notebooks with individual pages are better than catalogues...if the reps would just keep them current.
My Safilo rep told me that their catalogues are now on their website and they will no longer have catalogues.
However they may print one up just for Fezz!

I love the digital catalogs way better than the already printed version. I can take the images and the data and make my own catalogs and the more vendors that put them in digital format then the more I can add to our custom catalog. I haven't done a custom catalog yet, but I really am thinking about it and the more companies that offer their catalog digitally the more realistic the idea becomes.

    Best way to go...

    Green, too.

Way easier to use than a printed version and more up-to-date.

Did they ever get the bugs out of their search feature? I tried several times years ago to search for say, a frame with a 22 DBL or a 150mm temple. It always came up with "too many to display". I even got that error message when I tried to search for a frame with a 68 eyesize. Wack!:hammer:

CD are old. Go ask your teenagers if they use them anymore.

Websites are the way to go. Quicker than CDs (do not have to find the CD and insert it), easier to update, cheaper, and far more interactive.

Plus, you can use those storage shelves for something meaningful.

I think it's great. The catalog is outdated when you get it. The CD is no different.
