    Question Autograph, Unique, Individual

We have had a lot of sucess with the new free form lens designs. Something has stuck out to me lately. Myopes seem to appreciate the new designs, while hyperopes have not been as receptive. I've been talking with my lab about this but have come up with no ideas why. Has anyone else noticed this? At this point I have begun holding back on using these lenses on my hyperoptic patients.

What kind of complaints are you getting from your hyperopes?

They complain mainly that they don't notice any difference or that they are more comfortable with their old design. They seem to be able to use the older design much better than the new design. I think most hyperopes don't take change well anyway, but the reading part is puzzling me.

My experience: for mid-plus lenses, some of the free-form designs either make the reading area smaller than it would be on the equivalent molded-front design, or give the appearance to the wearer of having done so.

Now, of course, one of our free-form tech folks will come in and contradict that. ;)

For what it's worth: as a moderate hyperope (+2.50 to +3.00), I do notice the difference between the free-form designs I wear and the others.

    Randy,

From my experience, hyperopes have a tougher time adapting to PALs and Add power changes than myopes for a variety of reasons.

    1. Most haven't needed glasses until about age 45, with full-time wear not typical until age 50 or so. Myopes started wearing glasses at a younger, or much younger age.

    2. They have a reduced field of view through their lenses due to magnification, especially with higher Adds and moderate to severe hyperopia.

    3. Moderate to severe hyperopes have higher accommodative demands than myopes, with increased demands on their fusional reserves due to induced base out prism when reading.

Keep in mind that most free-form lenses use very high index of refraction materials and top quality AR coatings, resulting in cosmetic (and some visual with the AR) improvements that may be more noticeable to a myope than a hyperope, and that alone may account for some of the positive responses.

    Testimonials of Autograph lenses

    http://www.shamirlens.com/ecp/testimonials.aspx
I tried my first pair of Autograph lenses. From the moment I put them on, I experienced the closest thing to optical perfection. I have tried other premium PALs, even those lenses that had it's problems (esp. weight).....

These temtimonials is normal for wearer who switch from semi-finished PALs to free form PALs for 60 year olds up in high prescription.

On 2000 , one of the biggest PALs company who didn't know how to produce free form PALs , tried to make OD & dispensing optician believe that their semi-finished PALs are better than all of the free form PALs and are trying to set up some clinical studies to support their story like in Hollywood.
( On 2003 after they bought free form PALs technology from some companies , than this company started to produce their free form PALs and deleted all of the clinical studies.)

My question is: Would you like to trust the information from this PALs company anymore ?

The problem Of the big company that they think that they are the best and theire R§D team is the best in the world
and they don't want that eny other company in the world be better or updated then them .
so for that they ry to make and to do eny thing that can help them to be better in technologie and in research .
the same problem in an other company how want to prouve that their PC lenses are better then the Trivex lenses..........
in my pint Of view every advertising company is done only to push the custumer to buy, and of you are a good technicien you must try and make research by your self to have you one opinion!!
    :) ;)
