Doc, i guess your ok, any word from jerry huang
Just glad you are safe Doc
I've been watching this, at least as much as is being released. A terrible tragedy.
How far was that from you?
How far away were you from the disaster?? Are you affected??
I am in Shenzhen. We are ~ 1500km from where the quake took place so we did not feel it. My wife has family in Sichuan and fortunately they are alright.
Jerry is in Shenzhen now, too. I saw he yesterday.
I just signed up with the Red Cross, China today and I am on my way to Sichuan tomorrow to help. Yes, I want to help people who are suffering there and also help myself to lose some weight for being too lazy recently!!!:D:D:D:D
Doc, I was told that I will get 50% discount on my flight ticket, no need to present my passport (just show my CA driver license), no cigar,no coke and no shower for 15 days.....:cheers:
OK, glad to hear everyone we know is ok, jerry good luck on your mission, 15 days with out a shower, let me know when its day 16
I hope you are doing well. It's a horrible horrible tragedy. I wish there were more of a global response.
How the hell do you expect to stay awake and working for 15 days then?
;)
Don't worry Jerry. I will do my part to help you! I will smoke, drink and shower your share until you are refreshed and over your mission!!!
Seriously, be safe and thank you for the effort! Please post your experience with us!!
:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:
Thank you, Jerry, for what you're doing. Please let us know what's going on. It's a big deal to alleviate even a little of the suffering there.

I was all set to go with Jerry. Went out to buy supplies for the trip (flaqshlights, nylon rope, leather and canvas worker gloves, first aid kit, etc). Came back home and Jerry and I were looking for flights to Chengdu when he got the call.....
We cannot go! Reason being:
1) Only men between the ages of 25 to 35
2) Must be Communist
3) Must be able to speak Sichuan hua (Sichuan dialect).
Now I will go back to the store I bought all the stuff and try to get a store credit. :hammer:
Doc,
I spent 4 hours on calling people to hold their shipment to ChengDu. If they already did, then transfer those donated items to the Red Cross, China.
I still want to thank you all and the following sponsors:
1. 2 units of Kawasaki off road 4-wheel cycles and 200 liters of gas from SportTek, GuangDong.
2. 2 units of 1,050 watts (48 volts x 50 AH) off-road e bikes, 2 units of cargo trailers and a gas power generator from Wettsen bicycle LTD, SanDong---American own.
3. :D:D:D20 packs of warm Coca-Cola & 4 carton of Captain Black cigar from " The Scooter"------ the ony one American own pub in Tianjin.;););)
4. 20 units of instant cell phone chargers from Motorolla, Tianjin.
5. Doc's word: "I will feel really bad if I am not there to help"!----05/15/2008 at 1800 hour:cheers:. Doc, we tried the best we could!:cheers::cheers:

Eric, is there anything we as optiboarders can do in the way of supplies that are needed, especially optical
Doc, how are things going over there?? What's happening??
The orginisation that I work with has a team (MD's and RN's) along with 2 or 3 containers of supplies (medical and basic food) that are standed in Shanghai. Seems no one can decide what to do with a large group of foreign volunteers.
Also have the same problem in Thailand waiting to go to Myanmar.
If they only accept communist volunteers, doesn't that kind of limit what they can do with volunteers outside China, N. Vietnam and Cuba? And of course N.Vietnam and Cuba have rather limited resources and personell that are allowed to travel on thier own.
Not to mention if voluteers must be between 25 & 35 those with money and expertise are further limited.
Chip
I'm sure our CIA alone would be happy to furnish almost unlimited supplies and volunteers without these restrictions.
