A patient who had purchased a very expensive frame with a pair of Zeiss progressives returned a few days after purchase claiming she could not see through lenses. After examining the glasses i found they were cmpletley covered with hairspray.I cleaned them and handed them back to a very embarrassed patient.:hammer:

I wasn't there in 1929 but I do remember when I started in 1973 we saw a lot of rimless mountings all in glass with very few breakage. Even then we would get that same story. I don't get why people think they have to lie about their glasses. When I first started I had to adjust a balgrip mount and the manager who was a bit older said be careful those are glass,no sooner then he said it you heard this crack he looked over and said, now go tell the patient what you did and tell her we will have her glasses repaired by the next day. I did and we did get them back the next day completely repair. Now remember that was glass and had to be heat treated, needless to say the manager refused to let me deliver them, he said I don't want to
eat another pair like that. He said here are some old ones practice on these then the next one I will let you deliver. Live and learn

I just wonder why nobody made any frame during the last rimless craze, that was based on the old Balrip..........once notched you just clipped the lenses in and out. Some poeple had them and changed from clear sunglasses by just clicking them in.

the hairspray comment reminded me that back in 1974, 2 months into it, a farmer came in the shop complaining that he could no longer see through his one month old glasses. I took a quick look at them, went back to the fitting table, then came back and handed him his glasses. He exclaimed "My Gosh, I can see through them now, what did you do?" I told him that I merely cleaned them. He then retorts "clean them, if I have to clean them, then I do'nt want them!" Well, he eventually found himself out the door with nothing else occuring. He had been wearing his glasses every day, on his tracor in the dusty fields of Ohio, without once thinking to clean them, lol

1.6 are pretty tough however do you think he might be telling the truth?

ps I forgot to mention he was in toys r us with a small child (bless their hearts dont they love mummy and daddys specs!)

I have not had one break in while but the thing I hate is when your trying to restring or get a lens out and you have it 90% of the way out and the nasal portion of the lens starts to chip because the lab put on a freaky safety bevel and the lens just starts flaking drives me crazy.
