Asphro-F. It's the thinnest bifocal out there.

Zeiss Gradal Top - 1.9 glass. Depending on the rx, of course. I also like the Hoya ECP in 1.7 as well.

We can get 1.9 again? Where?

Ditto on the Hoya's 1.70 material. I use it in place of 1.67 whenever possible.

    MMA:

I don't have a favorite per se, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Hoya's iD in 1.70.

A moderately low cost lens that is often overlooked is Sola's VIP gold. Available in a +.50 BC, it has a very good distance FOV, moderately short corridor, and is a low specific gravity high Abbe mid-index lens.

I'm a -13.75 -2.00 increasing due to cataracts. Back when I was merely a -10.00, I used Spectralite because even though I could get thinner lenses, I opted for better vision. Now, I have very little choice in what lens I get. I'm currently wearing the Tokai progressive in 1.70, since Hoya won't do my Rx in their 1.70 anymore. I also have a perfectly good though useless set of Gradal Top in 1.67, a useless material for high myopes in my opinion.
I was worried the lower ABBE would bother me with the 1.70, but the chromatic abberration seems bothersome on y in the blue end of the spectrum, about where blue LEDs are.
My other choice was the Physio 360.

Well, for myopes as high as me, 1.67 would be useful if your frame was a 22 mm eyesize, then you couldn't get far enough away from OC to encounter the horrible chromatic abberation inherent in such a low-ABBE lens. The sad thing about 1.67 (and 1.74) is that by the time your Rx is bad enough to benefit from the thinness, the ABBE becomes a crippling factor. Though there are some who are not sensitive to this, it bothers me an awful lot.

    Seriously, use the 1.70.

    Dragon,
Is the Abbe of 1.74 as bad as 1.67?
The abbe of 1.70 is 40ish?? Right?
Everytime I call Hoya about doing a high Rx in the 1.70, they can't do it for some reason or another and I end up getting 1.67.

    MarcE,

The Abbe of 1.70 is 36.

    1.67 is 32

    1.74 is 33

Bummer about the Hoya issue. I really like the 1.70. I find that when I price it out, it is sometimes about, or less than, 1.67 (edged, not uncut)-depending on discount.

That article seems outdated in their ABBE value of the 1.60, which is now 42, the same as The Ultimate Answer.

And Hoya seems to do my lenses, even though they are officially out of range.

I sure hope that author doesn't quit his day job! He was using the old MR-6? 1.60 as a referrence! What a schmuck. I am going to e-mail the editor and ask that he be removed as a writer. I think he needs a break!

Heck, the Lenses Product Guide has listings for 1.60 Abbe values:

    Essilor: 41
    Somo: 42
    Carl Zeiss: 42
    Hoya: 41

There is no mention of the old value anymore!

Look how many ABBE values you can find for Trivex, there's at least two depending on the manufacturer's composition. Now why there's not just one - go figure!:hammer: Maybe because they measure differently.

The collaborator on that article sure knows his stuff, though.:D:bbg::cheers:
