need help finding out about a frame

A patient of mine is looking for a certain kind of frame and I have tried to research it on the web and I can't find any information on them. All the patient can tell me is they are frames that break apart at I think the bridge and dangle around the neck. He says he seen an actor on either CSI or NCSI wearing them. My patient desperately wants a pair and has ask me to see if I can find out any information on them. Does anyone know what they are or have any ideas where I might start looking? Please help

    Maybe this??

    Hi!

I have seen this type of glasses. They are readers that have magnents on the bridge, thus allowing the wearer to "pull" apart the reader. It is usually attached to a cord, which allows it to "dangle" around the neck.

A site that you want to check out to see what I am talking about is:

    http://www.readinstyle.com/product/C...ngGlasses.aspx

Your client may not be looking for these exact readers, but now you know what you are looking for. I too, admit these are hard to find, even on Google. I type in Readers Eyeglasses+Pull Apart to only come across this one site out of many.

    Good Luck on your Hunt.

He wears the Clic-readers. Though they are kind of small and the "cord" is form-moulded and cannot be adjusted for a wider head. The magnets won't stay closed if the readers aren't a perfect fit.

My wife and I saw the "geeky" guy in the movie Wild Hogs wearing them. We busted up laughing. Now that the "stars" are wearing them, they will be all the rage.

After thinking about it some more, I would do anything to try and convince your patient not to get these type of readers.

IMO, it is just a gimmick. They are no different than other OTC readers that are going to dangle off of a cord and get scratched up. And now instead of them being ready to slip right on when needed, your patient will have to take the extra step of actually "clicking" her reader together. Where is the convenience in that? Plus as Optigrrl pointed out, they are not easily adjusted. Too much of a hassle.

    Just my 2 cents,

    Wave

I've seen Clic sunglasses too.. I've seen them Rx'd as well. From what I've heard they are a hit, however, it does depend on the pt's bridge measurements, etc. I do think they come in sizes similar to Cocoon sizes.

Watch "This Old House" or "Ask This Old House" on PBS. Tom Sylva the general contractor often wears them. Looked them up one time, and they were available then (year or so ago) as stk magnifers only.
