WileyX tends to be popular. Wrap styles, vented w/pad to allow for use on a motorcycle, most of the stock plano lenses are Z87.2 approved. WileyX supplies a few divisions of the United States military.

    You bet!
Miles ahead of Wiley in terms of quality. gumby-like adjustable temple tips. Inserts available. The interchangeable lenses could also be plano and Rx for you part-time CL wearers.

Rudy is Rx-able. These police officers will need suns and a clear pair, right?

You're joking right? I've carried both side by side in two offices where I've worked. Nearly everyone that looked at them found the WileyX to be more stylish and more comfortable. Most of the comments I got about Rudy was that they are just too darn European looking.

Quality wise they are on par with each other. There are better on the market and much worse on the market. And WileyX has interchangeables as does Rudy - so that's really not a consideration.

If I were a cop messing with angry civilians, with probable physical contact, I would want safety glasses with Transitions Trivex or the mid-index Sunsensors.

    Mid-Index as is 1.56 or 1.57? You're joking right? I agree 110% on the trivex, but mid-index???

I'd recommend Rudy Project as well. I'm a great fan of the product as is my husband who has worn them for years!

I sell the Rudys alongside the Wiley X, and we're selling more Wiley 2-1.
I think that most of the buyers in our market like the edgier look of the Wiley, and we've had a few problems with the Rx inserts on the Rudys.

When I sell an Interchangable I mean Oakley Half Jackets, Flak Jackets, Rydon1, Rydon2, Kalyos....ect. These frames allow the wearer the ease of changing lenses to fit the type of day or situatuation they are in, ie. golf (golf tint), shooting sports (orange or yellow), fishing (polarized).ect...The Wiley line is a nice (all frames are full eye zyl or metal) they reallydo not fit the bill as "Iterchangables".
You can order additional lenses for all most all of their frames - they're very easy to snap in and even the dumbest patient can figure it out.

Have you tried changing out the Rudy lenses? It's a major pain in the **** and I've been dealing with Rudy Project stuff for years - it's always been my biggest complaint with their product. I personally hate when a patient wants instruction on how to do it - I've even had our local Rudy rep show a few patients when he was in the office and he had difficulty (which he turned into a positive - "after all, they'll never fall out!").

    how about cost difference

Wiley X is a much more affordable product but not near as advanced of a product.

Between these two choices I feel your really talking about two different markets.

Wiley X = Rugged Rx Sunglasses, less cost, quicker sale through.

Rudy Project = Rugged, High tech, Interchangable lenses, more style options, PREMIUM cost. Worth every penny if you can get the right buyer/patient.

I love my Rudy's. Model Graal SX with polarized Rx lenses.

I was told by a rep last week (not a Maui Jim rep) that the city of San Antonio buys thier police and fire fighters a pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses (Rx or plano as needed).

Don't know how much truth there is in it, but definately not helping the rep's bottom line by mentioning it. We already carry MJ as it is.

Anyone in San Antonio that can confirm or deny this would be appreciated.

Here in Oz, our police can't wear Maui Jim's as they have a mirror coating...
