It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

That's interesting, Jack. Did they say why?
I see you are from Yorkshire too. There is certainly quite a bit of OptiBoard activity up there. Harrogate is a beautiful city. I was there for a conference two years ago.

    Thumbs up essilor

Glad you liked the old home town David.
The only reason I can think of is that the grants available from the EEC. have run out.:drop:

    Question mmm

Could well be Jack, as it follows on from Sola closing their plant down too.
But it could also be this is where the V2's were made as they are being phased out soon.

Does anyone know if the Sola V2 goes by another trade name outside of the UK? I haven't heard anything about a Sola PAL being phased out so I wonder if the lens is strictly UK. We had a fellow from London come in with a Sola PAL; even though it wasn't marked with the letters VIP all of the other markings were the same.

    Thumbs down VIP

Jo, outside the U.S., the VIP is known as the Graduate.

Missed advert opportunity, I'd say - y'know, "plastics" and all... then again, Sola probably couldn't afford Hoffman. Not even Garfinkel.

Though I regret not buying in at $4. Who knew?

    Robert,

Thank you for solving that mystery. Everytime we get someone in from overseas it becomes a hunt to find out what lens the person is currently wearing. What does VIP stand for anyway?

    optispares:

Any idea how many jobs are going to be "phased out" with the production site? It sounds like it is going to put a real dent in the local economy in that town.

Sorry Jo i was not very clear :hammer: V2 is a essilor product (must be one of the longest running vari's going), but not for much longer,.. as it is still a good seller.
Sola's did drop a lot of products in the UK this year though, grad xl's, 1.6 index grads to name but 2..

The "V2" was the Varilux 2 product.
