    On- Line Ordering

    Hi Everyone!

I have recently had a patient request that I provide them with their P.D. measurements so they may order prescription sunglasses on-line. After having a discussion with this person, they then asked me to help them place the order! It is apparent ,through recent media ,that this will become a situation we will confront on a more a frequent basis and I would like to know how other licensed opticians are going to confront this situation. Personally, I am not interested in providing my services for free or supporting on line ordering. I feel this takes away quality control and de-values our profession. Any thoughts?

In charge $35 for PD, $50 to verify Rx, and $85 to fit. Keeps most away from my door.

"Would you help me place the order?" Are you kidding? I have not yet been asked this but I would have to politely decline. I think I will be upfront and honest. "I'm sorry I cannot help you place your order and I am sure you can understand my position." If they are really dense perhaps I may have to come up with an analogy.

In addition to Jacqui's suggestions have them drop shipped to you for verification - otherwise, no deal.

    feedback

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really appreciate this forum. Sometimes our doctor can only see "who may walk out the door and not return", if we take a hard stand, but when i asked him if I was qualified to do his job he laughed and my point was made.

    Thanks again,

Fee for service. $$ for PD, $$ for hi measurement, $$ for fitting. Not responsible for lens fabrication not done by you.
