I am not exactly surprised. B&L dropped this ball from the get go. First of all, it should have either been a continuous wear or 1-Day lens. Second, there was no advertising. Third, it is B&L, which says enough.
I really hope this project is not dropped and that J&J, Cooper, or Ciba pick it up. I really liked those lenses.
B&L said that:
1. Nike's royalty fees were onerous, especilly since Nike did little in underwriting or sponsoring the lens's promotion.
2. Nike was *very* difficult to work with.

Oh, could be true. Thing is, it is B&L. I mean the company is a huge, mismanaged, mess.
By the way, what does FWIW stand for?

From the softchrome website:
In 1998, baseball fans all over the world saw baseball legend Mark McGwire break Roger Maris’s homerun record. McGwire’s optometrist since 1988, Dr. C. Stephen Johnson, designed special contact lenses to correct McGwire’s 20/500 visual acuity to better than 20/10. Dr. Johnson also tinted McGwire’s contacts with the Softchrome ® Yellow Sport Tint. McGwire endorses this special sport tint and states: “It allows me to see the ball crisper and shaper and reduces glare”.
----and the steroids helped a little too.
When the local rep stopped by, she mentioned that they were phasing out this product.
Another huge issue was the number of patients getting trials, then never finishing the fitting process.. or purchasing more than the initial set to get going.
So all kinds of overwear/abuse issues, coupled with a niche market.. not a profitable lens makes.
