Has anybody noticed or does anyone care?

Anyone noticed that our highest priced "Fashion Sunwear" has lousy lenses. Sunwear retailing from $ 75.00 to $500.00 has for the most part the poorest quality lenses. Does the industry assume that the end customer will just wear them on the top of thier head to show the world that they have the right label? Very few of these even have polarized lenses, many of those that do just have a pressed plastic lens that oodles and gobbs of aberration can be seen in by even the most rank amateur opticians and most of the lay public.

Should we sell junk in our otherwise high class optical stores just because it it priced and named to our advantage?

Dunno about you, but if I order sunglasses that are very expensive, I definitely check the lenses first. Crappy lenses and good frames don't cut the mustard here. I also don't order any "sunglasses" with a 30% pink gradient. I only buy ones that have good ophthalmic grade lenses of suitable darkness.

I have noticed it. $300 sunglasses running with $0.05 lenses. I mean they do not have to be polarized, since that is a definite preference, but at least a backside AR.

Since 90% of our sunwear sales are Rxd, I don't really care if the demo lens is inferior. They are buying the frame for the look and usability it will give them with their Rx inserted.

I dunno either. The only expensive pair of suns I've ever purchased for MYSELF atleast was a Maui Jim. Glass Polarized, backside AR, Bi-gradiant Mirror coat. Love em. I'm a bit of a sunglass snob, so when we do get suns in (which isn't often, unfortunatly :\) They're good. I specificly don't get the highest end lenses, specificly for the reason cocoisland58 said; When we sell a sun, it's RX. So the demo isn't nearly as important.

The thing is though, you hit it on the head when you said "Fashon" Suns. Those sunglasses are just for that. Fashon. The lenses don't have to be good, no one cares. They want the look, and that's all. Is it a good thing? Well, if someone wants to pay $500 for a pair of crappy glasses, so be it. Rest assured that I won't be carrying anything like that.

Edit: I think we should be equally worried about where sunglass fashon trends are heading. When Chanel can make crap like this, we have a problem.

I just got a new Calvin Klein in and the lenses had a bunch of little nicks in the front surface. They couldn't even just send new lenses and say sorry for the inconvenience. They want you to send the complete frame back, re-order and wait for a credit. I told them just send a pick-up, no re-order.
