    Shamir Office help

I have a patient that is doing a lot of sewing and uses a computer while doing so. It looks like the Ofice Poly +1.75 is on B.O. for a very long time.

I need a similar lens that comes in something thinner than Cr-39 and that has a seg ht that will accomodate a 16-17 measurement.

Any ideas? I tried Lens Guru but that does not appear to include indoor lenses as a category.

    The rx is -4.25 -1.25/ -4.00 -1.50 (add)2.25

I love this web site, what a great resource.

Why not just use the intermediate rx in the distance portion of a regular progressive and compensate the add power accordingly? Might I suggest the Polycore All Purpose F? (shameless plug, sorry :D) in polycarbonate?

    Considerations

    Thanks for your reply...
I have considered that as an option, but it is a vsp and I am hoping to not have to call the patient with a change in the price or a restyle. That is why I am trying to make this thing work. Gotta love VSP, I thnk we'll make a good 30-40$$ on this one. Minus the time for my research.

I should have an 'occupational lens' category available by year end. Initially will have progressive 'computer'-type lenses listed and eventually also include more traditional choices such as Double 'D', trifocals with other-than-50% adds, etc.

I've been a little lazy lately but will have the site updated and some new features added by early '08. Any suggestions for improving its usability are always appreciated.

Another option is to use a standard PAL (or a ST28), preferably one that has a generous distance zone, and .75 ADD availability. Set the distance power for the monitor distance, and what's left over for the new Add power. This is how I make all of my computer glasses, and provides a wider field of vision along with more accuracy and flexibility in getting the FLs right, compared to the general use "office" type lenses.

Whatever you choose, make sure the client measures the distance to the monitor. 25" is average, but I've seen distances from 35" to 18", the latter best served by using SV lenses or a high set (seg level with the top of the screen) ST35, or an exec if you must.

use Nikon Online 1.67 or if you want to go the progressive (and more expensive) route - use Varilux Liberty with Intermediate/Near

I am totaly sold on the Shamir Office lens. It was backorderd (I was told because of the fires in SanDiego) and waited 1 month for my lenses. Worth the wait. I own 5 pairs of Office lens and 1 pal (I am 20/20 distance). Don't put your pt in a pal with intermediate as dist. Rx. I love the wide and deep reading in the Office and you'd lose that in the PAL. I'd try the Sola Access if you don't want to wait.
I hadn't heard of the Nikon Online lens. I'd like more info on that if someone could fill me in. We do a lot of Office lenses with our pts and it would be nice to have something in a 1.67 for some of them.

Anyone have a link to the nikon lenses?
I would like to see the specs on it and how it is fit.
    I like the 1.67 option.

Even with five pairs they always seem to be in another room when you need them.:)

Don't put your pt in a pal with intermediate as dist. Rx. I love the wide and deep reading in the Office and you'd lose that in the PAL.
To be sure, the office type lenses offer a slightly wider zone for reading at 16" on the downgaze, a regular PAL, when the powers are modified for the monitor distance, have a wider near zone than PALs for general use due to the lower ADD power, typically a +.75 or +1.00.

However, the gaze towards the monitor will have a wider and taller field of clear vision, with less horizontal and vertical blur and swim, if you power the distance zone for the monitor, using a PAL that's clean across, and slightly below the 180 (Genesis, GT, ECP). The combination of a larger and more stable field of vision when looking at the monitor, along with the ability to get the focal lengths spot on (if the client measures the distance to the monitor in advance of the fitting), makes this a better computer lens IMO, compared to the more general purpose desk or office type lenses.

One too many "http://" in that address. But even more importantly, be wary of getting useful PAL information from sites out of the US as we don't always have the same availablility here as elsewhere. The address given was from a .sg country domain, which is Singapore. If you practice in the US, you don't wanna depend on specs from Singapore as the availability is different.

    You can try this... http://www.shorelens.com/nikon.html
Or you will find some information at...beware, self-serving advise coming.... www.thelensguru.com
