? for high minus RX with astigmatism

Can anyone suggest a solution for a patient who gets bad double vision no matter the RX power unless he constantly adjusts the vertex distance? I have tried everything obvious! His current rx is od -8.75 + 125 x 110; os -11.00 + 1.74 x 80. No matter how much the power of the lens is changed, he gets bad double vision until hitting the exact vertex distance for that power. Then his vision is almost perfect. Help!

    Thank you

Rigid contact lenses. Or try just a plain spherical equilivant Rx. many doctors Rx's stuff like this in spherical equilivant for many years with a lot of success. Some of these patient's were so happy that they could never be converted to a "proper" cylindrical Rx.
Sometimes a step backward puts you in the right spot.
