    Varilux Computer Lens

Has anyone ever used this? Very specific about having at least a 30 B and a 15 seg. Tried to sell one at a 28 B and the lab rejected it due to small B. Why would a mm at top or bottom be so crucial? Anyone else experience similar probs? We usually sell the Nikon Online but just wanted to try this because it was new. Seems like kind of a pain.

I read up on this lens. Personally, I think it is not as much of a computer lens as a progressive with a wide reading and intermediate. Similar to the Solamax. I would stick with the Essilor Interview (or as the Online like you mentioned).

Why would Essilor reject a 28 B. One of two reasons. One of the inputters at the lab may have saw it and just rejected it without knowing better. Second could be the company just trying to stand strong against the a lower B.

I noticed that some companies are now saying that if you are lower than the min fitting height, we will not honour any non-adapt warranty.

    .

Is the Interview the same as the Nikon Online- ?

I alwasy wondered about this - I have asked a few of my labs - about ordering this interview - however - they do not carry it - and to be honest 1 never heard of it ?

Is it out there in the USA _ and has anyone fit it - or do they just send the nikon instead ?

    thanks

The Nikon Online has high adds, and a longer intermediate. They are different lenses. I think the Online is available in a 1.50, 1.75, and 2.00. Also available in a 1.6 and 1.67

I remember hearing that Essilor bought Prio lens company about a year or so ago, but I have yet so see anything happening with marketing the lenses. Maybe they just bought it for patent#'s? I don't know but Prio had several computer PAL designs.

I have just ordered a pair of Varilux Computer lenses for a test patient....actually a buddy of mine. He is currently wearing a Nikon Online and complains that he has to walk around a bit within his shop and finds he wished it had a slightly better beyond 10 foot range of clarity...we shall see, stay tuned.
On another test case my wife, a CA, is going to be testing a set of Sola Access computer lenses....

The Varilux Computer lens does have some fitting criteria that must be maintained. Since the fitting hight is on datum(no fitting hight required), the B measurement must be 30mm or deeper to get a min 15 hight of the MRP....which will give the wearer a distance vision component in the upper most quadrant of the lens, and a large and comfortable near vision in the bottom quadrant.
