    NC State Boards

    :oYES!
I am so happy, I passed on my first attempt. WWWOOOHHHH!:o
I jumped so high I hit my ceiling fan. I do not have any hands-on optical experince other than an externship I did last semester at a Dr's office for a school credit. WWWWWOOOHHH! Before I receive my NC licence, I need to complete a 6 month internship with a NC Board-registered training establishment. Oh, this is so great, because I did not think I did very well on two parts of the exam.

TY, Ole' Leo of VSI for inspiring me to become an optician! TY, for your support, answers, and selling me an awesome lensmeter I was able to practice @ home with. I am so glad you saw that add in 1986ish.

    Thank you!

I am so silly with myself. But seriously, I almost failed the lensometry practical part because at school we did not have PALs made of crown glass, so when I tried to find the hidden marks-- I was panicked from the inexperience. School said that the marks would be harder to find (using the green light thing?) but I really did not expect it would be as hard as it was.......I lost allot of time. Anyway, my friend said I should have "fogged them" by exhaling on them. TY for the info. school, NOT!

Congrats, you should be proud of that especially since they do have a rigorous test.

Congrats! You're going to have to change your name now :)

I had the same problem with glass on my pratical exam. Never delt with them before, not even in the 6 months I had been working in the field prior. I lucked out and realized the markings were way easier to read from the backside for some reason lol.

    Hi All:

I think I may be missing something here. Are you saying the North Carolina practical actually uses glass progressive lenses on the practical examination?

Yes, the lensometry practical consist of 4 pairs of glasses all made of crown glass: 2 sv glasses, 1 ft , & 1 PAL. The very 1st question said what is the distance power of pair D. Before finding that I read ahead to question 9 or 10 that asked what brand the lenses were. That is what told me that "D" was PALs. So when I went to find the hidden gravings I panicked because I could not readily see them, I then went back to make sure that I had not read afar to ahead and saw that I had not. So, I brougth them back to the light and finally saw the markings. After that I shakingly made my 2 dots and found the pair in the PAL indentifier book. I then used the appicale 4 drop chart to draw the appropriate distance circle, fitting cross, and PRP dot to read and answered the questions from there. If any other Optiboarders recall questons that they were not sure about I have some of my own that I would like to explore.
