    Vegas Dilemma

Okay, have a dilemma here and I need some help. Originally, a conference I am going to was going to be at the New Frontier. It was moved to the Las Vegas Plaza. The New Frontier was bought by The Plaza, but that is a different hotel than the Las Vegas Plaza.

The Las Vegas Plaza is on Main Street between Las Vegas Blvd North and South. I am assuming that is Old Vegas?

Do you guys have any idea of the transportation between Old Vegas and the Strip? Is there a train? How much? How much and long are cab rides?

There is a monorail that connects old vegas to the strip. it's not exactly cheap but it's better than a cab.

    Thank you for the help

Do you have an idea about how many times it runs and what the cost is?

I've only ridden the monorail between a couple of the places on the strip and it was still about 3 bucks each way I think. I would suspect you'll be looking at around 5-7 bucks each way for the monorail to/from downtown.

NOt sure about the hours, but it is vegas, I would suspect it runs all night.

You can get an all day bus pass pretty cheap. The buses run back and forth all day and all night and are safe. Cab rides are not cheap and the monorail does not go to the old strip as far as I could tell. Actually I had more fun on the old strip than the new one. Sure it's a bit seedier and the waitresses look a bit worn down but the drinks are still free, the slots were loose and it feels more like old Vegas.

Well I am going with my associate. He is an University professor (we are presenting a paper). He also does not drink, not a drop. I figured I would have some drink (not too much because I am a good boy) and he may do marking, at $39 a night it would be worth it to get two rooms. Now, I can get a room on the strip for $54 each (one room instead of two at $39 each). So that is where I have to make the decision.

Part of it is that I want him to have a good trip. I know he loves scenic stuff, so Caesers, New York! New York, and the Belligio are a must. He is not entertained with the lower end, gambling stuff like I am.

if that's where the entertainment lies for him, then going down to the strip might be a better deal....factor the travel expenses into that cheap room

    Old Vegas is called "Downtown"

The monorail does not go to Downtown, only as north as Sahara, and south to Tropicana.

The most fun are the buses called “The Deuce”, Double Decker buses that are actually very cool. The 40-foot-long buses seat 53 on the upper deck and 27 on the lower. A Deuce day pass is $5 and a one-way ride is $2. Deuce buses are part of Citizens Area Transit.

Cab's are everywhere and expensive, but very convenient.

I don't know what kind of room you can get in Vegas for that cheap but if it's clean it's good. Personally I won't share a room if I don't have to. There's nothing like morning privacy and you never know if they snore.

    monorail

just to confirm the mono rail does not go downtown.
    it stops at sahara.

you can take it from the tropicana though...just walk across the street and get on it at the MGM Grand..

    Taxi is more convenient though
