    Crier Minor disappointment

    All,

(Hopefully this counts as a meta-comment about optics (that is, a comment about posting comments on the topic of lenses and optometry,) rather than such a comment outright.)

Since I have some questions about Trivex, and some apparent problems with my brand new Trivex lenses (visible imperfections ("inclusions?") in the material of the ground lenses themselves,) I was *elated* to find this OptiBoard. I was further encouraged when I discovered an apparent co-consumer named 'Bev' asking similar non-professional questions to mine, here:

    http://www.optiboard.com/forums/arch...0.html?login=1

So I registered, thinking I'd be able to ask such questions, too. Alas, no. The FAQ assures me that I'm only allowed to post here, and my posts may not be the type of comment/question I was wanting them to be.

    Doh! :hammer:

But, I suppose the last thing you all want to do after answering stupid questions for 8-10 hours at your day job is to come home and... answer more stupid questions. So, I guess I can't blame you for such a policy. Regardless, I can't help but feel disappointed to the point of leaving this meta-comment about my lack of credentials to post optic-related comments. Hmm.

P.S. Steve Machol: what an incredible resource for your industry-- good job! I wish something like this existed for my industry... but regrettably we're far too competitive for this idea to ever fly.

OK, I'll bite. I only worked 4 hrs today, so I will answer some questions.

First, the reason we have the policy about consumers asking questions is that without seeing the item and the fit and the Rx and knowing your history, we can't make a proper determination of the issue or problem. And even if we could diagnose the complaint, we shouldn't. That would be presumtious and disrespectful to your current optician.

SO that leads to the answer. You need to ask the optician or frame stylist that you purchased the lenses from about your compliant.

    BTW, I LOVE trivex!

    Welcome aboard,

It's really not that we dont enjoy answering dumb questions after a 8-10 hr work day. Advice you may receive here may be considered a medical opinion.

For the sake of not making you knowledable enough to make yourself dangerous and for the sake of keeping ourselves out of a lawsuit we plead the 5th.

..Unless you wanna talk BEER, then we have a FEZZ who can give you a professional opinion without the fear of a lawsuit :D

    Stick out tongue

    MarcE:

Thanks for your meta-reply. Were I asking an actual question about Trivex (rather than a meta-statement about not being permitted to ask the question,) it would have only been for the purpose of contrasting y'all's comments with the statements that the proprietor might make, when I return the glasses. (None of you have a financial interest in my transaction, and... well, let's just say that the people I bought these glasses from didn't bat an eye when they quoted me $125 USD extra for an anti-scratch coating! "As if!") But even without comments from staid professionals such as yourselves, be rest assured that I will be bringing these issues to their attention, once I return from my vacation trip.

Oh, and-- except for the miniscule blister-like blemishes, and the "blurry zone" in my left lens-- "I LOVE TRIVEX!" too. This is my first experience with the material, but as soon as I put these new glasses on, I said "WOW!" (It wasn't until 2 hours later that I notice the blurry zone, and the apparent imperfections in the material.)

Braheem24: I'm not sure what a FEZZ is, beyond the entertainingly pejorative definitions that google just provided me. But I appreciate your meta-reply, regardless. :)

Thumbs up Just to be clear...

Just to be clear... I'm not expecting any further replies to my prior response to MarcE or Braheem42. I intend to respect your board's policy.

I will likely keep my registration and lurk though, only because the geek in me finds some of these archived technical discussions fascinating.

If all consumers were as polite as yourself you'd probably be allowed to post your questions. A while ago there was a run of rude, abusive consumers which led to this being professionals only.

Another little pearl about why we don't allow consumer postings.
If you ask any one of us a question about whatever you think is wrong with a product or service, you will get our opinion. However we are not in your shoes or your opticians shoes. Our opinion might be different than what is indicated in a given situation if we were personally handling it.
The consumer may be so rude and brash that whomever is dealing with it personally might think brushing them off is the best course of action, while this is seldom indicated it is sometimes justified.
We might be capable of welding your broken frame together, your optician may not be.
We might think something else is a better product for your needs, but if you ask all of us individually you would get a lot of different opinions of what the best product is. None of us is perfect, none of us can say that we would handle a particular problem in the best way. However it is easy to do Monday morning quarterbacking, especially for or about some one or something that we will never see or have to personally deal with.
Not to mention that many of us think we are the absolute best at what we do, and therefor think everyone else is incompetent or mediocre at best.
