Would Someone Who Fails The Ishihara Fail The Farnsworth D-15?

Hi guys, this question is posed as it is not exactly my expertise.

I'm deciding on doing a career change and become a police officer in my city. I've done several of those Ishihara tests online and unforutnately failed.

The tests the police use are called the Farnsworth D-15, would I still be able to pass that particular test?

    Thanks

    a local optometrist

I would suggest a local reputable Optometrist. Get an appointment, be honest, and discuss it with him. He could surely help and not hinder you in any way.

Most likely, yes. Although, it depends how many plates and which plates on the Ishihara that you missed.

Typically the Farnsworth series of tests are much more difficult than Ishihara. They are a little more specific on color vision anomalies, and I would unfortunatley suspect that you would have trouble doing these tests also. However you never loose anything by trying.

Are they really? I've been told by various people who are on the police force that they failed the Ishihara tests but not the Farnsworth.

Isn't the Ishihara much harder though? Because even for the slightest deficiency in color perception it will fail you, not the case with the Farnsworth

I do not know if this applies to your particular situation (police officer in Canada) but an applicant for a pilot’s license in the US may take the Farnsworth test if the have a deficiency manifest itself on Ishihara testing. And while the Farnsworth is a “tougher” test many who fail the Ishihara cards do pass the Farnsworth. You might want to contact a Canadian Aviation Medical Examiner and ask for a referral to an eyecare practitioner who is thoroughly familiar with the Farnsworth test.

The Ishihara test that you took on line is thoroughly worthless due to the inaccurate color rendition of computer graphic cards and monitors.
