    Reapiring Decals- Ect ?

    Hi everyone -

I have recently seen many decals - and logos - as well as embelishments falling off our pts frames -
I can not pin point 1 single frame - nor a single manufacturer - it seems like they are falling off left and right - more so then i ever seen before -

Usually the customer still has them - however i was unsure what is the best adhesive or glue to use - to re-attach them - ??
I have sent back some of the higher end products - and had them covered under their warrentee - however it seems as once i find out the correct product to use - it will be a simple fix -

I was concerned with all the differant types of plastics that are out there - that are being used in frames - what adhesive would be best that will not ruin - or crack the frames ?

Any suggestions - would be greatly appreacited !! -
I am hoping to get something that is user friendly - and more importantly - something - that a MSDS sheet or special handling instruction would NOT be needed -

    thanks in advance
    b

So if the emblem or name falls off is the product now less superior because it is no longer branded?

I don't understand why anyone would be buying such product if the quality isn't there. The reps seem to push this whole branding sells model, but do brandings that fall off return?

    have
you have seen no problems using contact cement - on any of the materials ?

and the markaway - that would remove any that may get onto the frame ?

it seems that the desingers just love these BIG LOGOS- personally i could care less - and i know many of our pts hate them - there feeling is they are paying enough for these brand names - why should they provide free advertising for them also -

there are many frames out there - that i will say - look great - and they did a awsome job on them - THAT IS UNTIL YOU LOOK at them form the side -

as you all know - the kids love those brand names - and just get so excited over them - this will make everyone chuckle - this 17 yr old came in asking us to adjust his glasses - so he takes them off his face - and i had to look twice - THERE WAS the demo lens that had D&G on the lens - I had asked him - - you don't have an rx - ? ( thinking he may have pocketted these and wanted me to put lenses into them -

he said oh - i have an rx in the other lens - however - i took it out - and put back in the demo - because the rx one was wrong and - should have had the writing on it -

he also - had a pr of prada's with the demo non glare -and the name on it - i had informed him - that those demos are only for demonstration only - and not made to wear optically - however he wanted to hear nothing about it -

As for our office - we did have a policy of removing demos - at time of sale -( except for rimless ) - if the pt was thinking about wearing the demos - since i did not feel comfortable - knowing the pt was going to be walking around with these paper thin - non safe demos - but this was a 1st - that a pt actually removed his (-1.50 - .50 x )- rx lens - to wear a demo

It's actually required by law to remove demo's. If a patient wants to purchase a frame only, you must remove demo's. There is no law that says you cannot give the demo's back to the patient, unmounted (presumeably for someone else to use for shapeing when Rx'ing elewhere.

    chip -
can u refrence - and provide YOUR STATE statue that you are thinking of -
obv. it is a state statue of yours - however was wondering how your state was set up for licensing purposes - ? and what the pre-req. you have there -

what are you required to do - to obtain your state lic. and what continuing ed requirements do u guys have - ?

here - we have a 4 yr apprentiship- and along with that - 1 must hold- the abo + Ncle - and after the 4 yrs - ( 2K hours per yr ) - there is a practical exam for eyewear - as well as contact lens fitting - and state statues

If one does not want to go thru the apprentiship - one could attend the 2yr coarse and obtain the degree thru the comm. school -

once obtained - the CEC-s would be 8 hrs per year - face to face only classes - however if one wants - they do not have to keep their NCLE or ABO active ( not sure why you woudl not want to - but some don't - ) - and the abo-ncle - accepts a copy of our state LIC. and does nto require us to take any other credits -

woudl love to see that state staue of yours - reguarding removing the demos - and would like to see your req. for state licensing

have a great holiday - this week -

Devcon two-part epoxy is your friend. I always try to have some of this and some JB Weld on hand at home and the office.
