I got an awesome job offer!

It took about a month from start to finish but it was worth it. I got offers everywhere I interviewed but it was too little money, weekends or no benefits. I was wondering if I would ever find what I knew I deserved. So for anyone out there on the job hunt, be patient and remember they need you!!!! Good luck to you all. And to all the offices that want to pay an ABOC optician w/15 years of strong sales, training and management what you would pay someone with no experience and no benefits, it will never happen. Like we tell our patients, you get what you pay for!!!! Opticians rule! lol

Opticians have been willing to work for too less of a salary. I started as an
Optician in 1973. The hourly wage has not kept up with the cost of living.
I believe Opticians whether they are in a licensed state of not, should increase their hourly wage alteast $5.00 per hour than what their area averages.

If we don't all think we are worth the money, who will?

Im curious what kind of salary you were being offered and what you accepted. Its all relavent dependong what part of the country your from. Here in NJ we start new grads at 54 and experienced opticians between 58 - 70 We have 3 managers who also have company cars, medical benefits, vacation 2- wks and a company 401 with company match of 50 percent

A late congratulations. Being in an unregulated state, it is difficult to find opportunities with a fair compensation when there are so many practices willing to hire fast food workers and give them the two-week training that turns into a day or two. If the state believed that eyewear is actually a medical device maybe things could change.
