System for Ophthalmic Dispensing-Borish, is usually referred to as the "Bible".

The TOPS Manual by fellow Optiboarder, Mike DiSanto is a great basic tool as well. Many use it as a study guide to prepare for the ABO.

I'd also include Optical Formulas Tutorial, Second Edition, by Stoner, Perkins and Ferguson. That's my optical bible.

Thanks for your suggestion, I think Mike DiSanto is one of the best speakers in the US and would love to get a copy of his book, but Amazon list his book as out of print and there are no used copies listed either. I tried ebay and struck out there to. Any ideas where I might find a copy?

Try the speakers area you will find Mike Disanto listed there and you can e-mail him from there and buy his latest copy of the book direct, or you could try the NAO www.nao.org or if you are a member of the OAA try there bookstore I just checked and it's definately in there www.oaa.org

Harry has provided 2 great links. I would suggest that you order from and support the OAA (Opticians Association of America). They are quickly becoming THE voice for Opticians in the USA. The NAO is ok, but they are basically a bookstore.
