Congratultions! I was surprised to see what HPRAC recommended as far as what TPAs should be permitted, but in a good way! Have you seen the final details as to what is permitted? It brings Ontario from way behind the times to being one of the more progressive provinces as far as TPAs are concerned!
It'll be good once we're on par with the US, but until then the last hold out provinces need to get on board with the TPA situation .. who's left anyways .. PEI?
I believe Bc's is in the works but yet to be passed
I trust what HPRAC advised is what will be permitted. HPRAC advised the Minister of Health that all topical meds (in the case of glaucoma, initial rx would be prescribed by an ophthalmologist) and related oral meds (antivirals, antibiotics, steroids, diuretics et al) would be able to be prescribed. This is the strongest optometric TPA law in this country, and on a par with the majority of American states. It's about time too.
If you look at www.eyeupdate.com you can soon see how far optometry has come, and how much better patient care can be if ODs are permitted to provide the care that they are trained to give.
