    A little help....? Plz

    Hello! First time poster here.

Erm let me just give a quick introduction, I'm a Pre-reg Do set to sit the final practical exams in June.

    Nerve racking!

I just need a bit of help with a few questions!

    Firstly,
Prism thinning- this topic still confuses me can anyone link me to some helpful sites? – or explain what exactly it is and what involves

    Secondly,
    Different PPLs- Hard/Soft/Firm-erm help?
I'm still confused as to how you tell the difference, and what actually is the deference. Examples?

    Thirdly,

If given the following Rx what would one dispense?
Px: 6 years, full time spec wearer
    R -3.00/-1.00x180 L-3.00/-1.00x180
    Add +1.75

    Many Thanks

They're probably expecting you to indicate a high, wide bifocal lens made from an impact-resistant material like polycarbonate.

Ditto what Darryl said and the last scenario, trivex or poly for impact resistance and split the pupil.

    Thanks for your replies :)

    For the third question,

Would one suggest a larger segment then a D28/R24?

Also how do you tell/train a child to use a bifocal?

Would two specs not be better?

I would suggest the widest seg possible. Most Pediatric Doc's that I have consult with suggest a Ft-35, some still like an executive. They don't like to have the child "cheat" by looking around and over the seg line. Set the seg line high, as other have mentioned, split pupil or even slightly higher because kids tend to be rough on there specs and the nose pads often get splayed out, which lowers them on the face, which lowers the seg. Welcome and Good Luck!!

I think you are correct. Younger still lists the FT-45 as well as the Round-40!

FT-35 will suffice, keep in mind that the frames will more than likely have a small A size and the 45 will get much of the seg cut off and leave a very heavy ledge on higher adds, use your judgement on this one. Oh yeah and what Fezz and chip said. :D

So true! Heck, I've seen some real W I D E ledges in those higher adds, that you could set a pint glass(or juice box for the kiddies) on them!
