    Slightly Annoyed

Had a customer purchase a pair of rx suns the other day. Simple job but he was sitting around -6.25 so we wanted to minimize thickness. This was a match tint job and I have had experience with having difficulty tinting high index lenses. Since I am new to the job I was feeling gung ho and ordered a lens that was advertised as 1.6 and Tintable. Left the damned thing in the tint bath for an entire day and couldn't get it passed a density of about 1.

Why would they advertise this lens as tintable?

Spectralite would be a good compromise. On any index over 1.6 the only thing that tints is the hard coat. Polorized could be a solution in some cases.

Thanks. I realize this. We are now gonna go with a 1.56 that is tintable for sure. I think I'm gonna send a very polite letter to Centenniel.

If you have a coater, coat the back side and cure for half the time.

Best high index lenses for tinting

Seiko 1.6 or 1.67 Diacoat stock lenses - perfect for tinting and they get pretty dark.

Also, consider polarized 1.67 available in single vision from KBCo. www.kbco.net

    Hope that helps!

Thanks, man. This is (of course) a time sensitive and price concerned customer. Would have done polarized if possible. Lenses should be there when I get there this morning. Should have them done by the afternoon.

Also, consider the Essilor Trio Sun package. I do my own tinting and it is great, but think about the benefit of a backside AR added to CR-39, 1.6 or 1.67 and a tint that will stay consistent for years.

Again. Would have loved to. Actually sold my first drivewear with AR a couple of days ago. Got it back. Lens was a little different than I had anticipated but it was all good.

We have sold two pairs of the drivewear so far, just waiting for them to come back.

It was kind of odd to see a front and back AR on a pair of glasses that are clearly sunglasses but the customer was happy.

You can do it with a backside AR only. Oh, I have to tell you, when we did our first pair our lab (we deal with one in Winterpeg) phoned us up and said they cannot put AR on it. We said they could, but they said they phoned Centennial (who provides the blanks) and Centennial said you cannot put AR on the lens. So we faxed off our copy of the information to Centennial, which Centennial sent us that clearly said you can put AR on it. Sometimes that company scares me.

Anyways, we just put Crizal sun on it.

When you order on Davis vision website it does not let you choose an AR for Drivewear lenses! I checked it anyway (the customer got it for free) and they made it. I am not 100% shure that the polarization axis is right but looks close! Anyway what do you expect from insurance pair of glasses!:bbg:

    Kendance, Because it is tintable...............................

If you would be up to date in new tinting technology you would have known that by using the MicroTints you could have tinted the lens in 4-6 minutes to a No 3 shade.

My lab (Luzerne) said they could put Zeiss SET on the back. Crizal Sun, however, was not approved.

I would've reordered a different high Index lens because that mid index isn't going to be thin at all unless he purchased a tiny frame. I tint 1.67 all the time. Only takes about 20 minutes.

Sigh....use polorized lenses and give yourself a break. Who stands over a hot dye vat anymore?

In Detroit we mix our water with Canada's. Makes for a nice mixed drink. Only their beer is better than ours.

Go get yourself some Beer from Finland. Its called Kupa or something like that. Its even good warm. My sister-in-laws ex-boyfriend smuggled it in by the case when ever he traveled. I guess working for the UN has some perks, no customs at the airport.

As per tinting I perfer trivex to poly.
