Looking for literature for frame dispensing and troubleshooting

    Hi,
I'm looking for a book, internet website, articles dealing with some of the basic teachings of the optical field.

I would like to obtain these materials to make up datasheets to train and educate my staff.

I am looking for information regarding the following:

Frame selection and matching with patient's face shape

Frame adjustment techniques that relates to addressing patient's complaints, ie techniques for adjusting frames when patients complain about narrow distance area in a progressive, etc.

I have found literature on the internet dealing with frame selection and patient's face shape, but each site tends to be alittle different than the next. Is there a gold standard?

    Thank you

I believe every clinic and optical should have a copy of System for Ophthalmic Dispensing by Brooks and Borish. The third edition just came out last fall. Everything you want to know is in there.

    Optician

 Cheeres to you for wanting to educate the staff as this is a benefit to them as well as the business. Are you in the Virginia area as I provide training for a nominal fee . I also am in support of the Brooks and Borish dispensing manual , if you dont have one get one . Its well worth the price.
    :)

    Not to be rude...

Maybe you should hire an Optician who knows this information already. A well qualified Optician could be your practices best investment.

The above mentioned book is a MUST HAVE. Many consider it the Bible for Opticians. Well worth the price. Not nearly as worth the price as a top notch Optician though.

    "The Indispensable Dispensing Guide"

If your lab is an OLA Member Lab they should have access to this guide. It is called "The Indispensable Dispensing Guide - The Eyecare Professional's Basic Dispensing Guide".

It is a good starting point for training a dispenser.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I actually have the "Ophthalmic Dispenising" book. The problem is that I have not opened it since I was a student almost 10 years ago....

The 3rd edition is scheduled to release in November. You will like it! It is full color and has extensive revisions and additions. I’m excited about it. The publisher is working hard to make it really good!
    Thanks for asking.

Does anyone have this one? If so, is it worth it for the Doc to get?

I use Elsevier also. Our own Harry Chiling has a link somewhere here for books as well. I will try to figure out how to post a link later.

You guys are just toooooooooooooooooo awesome.

I have the second editon of the Brooks book. I live about 20 minutes from the Southern California College of Optometry. I will visit their bookstore to see if the 3rd edition is worth buying. LOL, my second edition still looks mint.

You know the VEE edition of the 20/20 had a great insert in it, I believe it was called the opticians manual or something another, I grabbed a ton of them as they looked like a good place to start for a training. I have distributed them out in my office and they are pretty helpfull as they cover most of the basics.

Awesome, I'll check it out... I just have to fish it out of the pile of magazines that I have been meaning to get to.
