    PA Meet and Greet

It looks like a few of the drinkers in PA might have a drinking contest in the works. Sounds like we might have to put together a meet and greet. To be held in bars with good beer on tap only, looks like philly has been brought up as a suggestion. When, Where, Who? Lets iron this bad baoy out and get our drink on. (Fezz you b*stard you will finaly get your beer:D )

Thank goodness I will finally get my promised drinks. I will offer my house as a meeting place. About a 10 minute drive from my door to theres is the now World Famous Victory Brewing Company. I am also willing to be the taxi for a trip into Philly or points west. I will get us there, whoever signs on has to get us back, because I will be enjoying all of the beers owed to me. Any takers?

    Yo..Is Rocky comin' too

I'd like to see it happen within the next few weeks. It sorta depends on Harry's impending fatherhood. His wife is due anyday, so we will just have to see how things go. PM me your contact info so we can get this thing rolling.

I'd love to join in, but frankly I'm afraid! I missed a meeting with Fezz due to a cat/squirrel/whatever the damn thing was getting run over by its owner (who happens to be my girlfriend/dictator), and I know I've had my foot in my mouth often enough to make Harry want to take revenge as well.
In all seriousness, we should meet to talk about the issue of our state society if nothing else--that's a concern we all share. Also, I'd love to hear more from Fezz and Harry about licensing, etc, and what might work best here. There's gotta be a happy medium between "can't sell a frame without a two year associate's degree" and (as it is now) "any idiot off the street can make lenses for you."
    Oh, and beer. Beer good.

I am good for pretty much any Sunday as long as I have advanced notice or any Tuesday again with about 2 week advaced notice.

Oh and Mr_Mitchell, I will take my revenge by drinking you under the table. :)

Now that's the kind of punishment I gladly accept! I do hope we can all meet up--this issue of our state society is bothering me. One thing you've convinced me of is that, licensing aside, we are professionals and as such need to make sure that consumers know what they're getting when they choose to go to a non-professional. There's much to discuss as there's so many "sides"--ODs, MDs, etc...I would really love to hear from more experienced and more competent people about where we need to head.
For the record, though, I did win a "case race" or two at a certain Technical Institute, so watch out for the Yellow Jackets!

    Chris,

Don't feel bad. Harry and Mr. Mitchell would have probably stiffed you on the beer anyway.

    Try #1

    Alright gang-lets try this out.

Can we do this Sunday April 29th? Harry and I are willing to roll into Philly. Any suggestions on meeting places? I like McGillians Old Ale House, but am not sure of Sundays hours. We could try Monks, whatever.

    Or...

Would you Philly guys be willing to hop a Septa train out to the Burbs? It rolls into Downingtown, The home of Victory brewing! That would save poor Harry a few hours travel time.

    Interesting thought!

We all know that PA is a pretty large state.

I find it amazing that only 5 people in this entire state have the drive and desire to meet up with like minded individuals.

I know that there have been plenty of other PA optical folk who have checked this thread. Heck, there was probably a Optician or two who have / had even been active in the state society who may have checked this thread also.

Five Opticians, huh? (and even one eager out of stater!)

If thats the best a large state like this can do.................:hammer:

Fezz, it's the 80/20 rule. 20 percent of the people will do for the rest of the 80. That menas if 5 people want to show then 25 people were interested.

So is it this Sunday. I can PM info to whoever. Let's exchange cell phone numbers and iron out a time and place. Fezz seems to know the watering holes, give me some names and I will call and see what their hours are and such.

How far is Philly from Harrisburg? We fly into Baltimore and then drive to Eagles Mere PA. Know where that is? I know we pass Harrisburg (you can see it across the river) and go thru Williamsport.

Hey....brainstorm.....I could ask the husband. He went to Villanova so he may very well know this. Duh.

I hope you guys have a fantastic time on the 29th and have one for me!

Harrisburg is about 2 - 3 hours drive from Philly. Nettie, no one is scared of a female drinking anybody under a table. I know some girls that would drink me under the table, house ground you name it. It would have been nice to put a face to a name, next time your in town give me a holler as I live 20 min from Harrisburg.
