I can see why switching from a Hoya Wide to a Physio could be a bad idea. :)
The Essilor rep told us that switching Panamic and Comfort wears into a Physio shouldn't be a problem but not to switch a happy Comfort wearer into a Panamic.
I talk to my patients to decide what is best but usually if they are very happy with their present progressive I keep them in it.
My experience is not to switch any older hard designed progressive to the new asheric progressives. VIP Adaptar and SNL's are my definate no no's! Comforts are usually a problem with higher cylinders. I think the biggest probem comes from the asheric design of the Physio. I have better success with the Definity. In fact my only failure in a Definity came from an Adaptar wearer. Since then I just don't switch'm!
I agree.....i haven't had a problem switching either panamic or comfort wearers to the physio, in fact i have had only one non-tol with physio and that was an engineer who previously wore varilux expert (now liberty).
With regards to the Hoya GP Wide, i'd have to have a very good reason to switch a patient from these to another lens. People waering these usually rely on that very wide NV, great for pilots, architects and such.
Dear All,
could u please tell me what a WAVE FRONT TECHNOLOGY actually is?
Essilor is promoting the product Physio with WF Technology. I want to know how effective is this technology and is this really possible to maintain in such lenses?
Regards.
Without just really making this whole process to confusing this is it in a nut shell.
Wave Front, Free Form, Digital Surfaced whatever you want to call it is just a fancy way of saying its not a semi finished lens.
Most everything we order today is already pre-molded, pre-labled, and boxed up collecting dust on someones shelf waiting for you to call in to request it (semi-finished). Its then taken generated & fit into the patients frame. The problem with this process is that you have very little movement or play for each frame your patient selects. Basically were trying to cram all these different lenses into the frames that are selected.
What the new wavefront, freeform, digitally enhanced technologies are basically doing is they're taking it a step further and now making that regular Large T-Shirt (semi-finished) & tailoring it to a more personal custom fit Large T-Shirt (New technology)
They basically make the lens according to the patients frame selection/RX. Each manufacturer has their own way of making the new lens. All back side, Rx on the front power on back, coatings on front or back, so on...All a little different with the application but all the same custom idea-wavefront, freeform, digital designed
What you now get is a progressive lens that is custom designed to fit each individual patient versus a pre casted semi finished lens that is basic in design.
Hope this helps a little
