Testing for glaucoma in your pets

Has anyone ever taken the IOP of their pet or had it taken by a vet or optom?

I've tried taking retinal photos of my sisters dog but he just couldn't be kept still.

My sisters dog is getting on so I thought it would be in his best interest to take all precautions for his vision as he ages.

You will need a soft, squeaky, bone-shaped tonometer head, and a really cute, miniature, fire-hydrant-red slit lamp.

A recent study has shown that Pooper-Scooper shaped tonometer heads seem to raise the canine's apprehension level, giving a false high reading.

Of note, dogs seem to be most compliant with their glaucoma drops if it is flavored with the scent of their own genitalia.

    Cheers.

After my parents dropped 2500 bucks removing a cataract from their parrot, I can't say that there's much that surprises me when it comes to people and thier pets.

If that is the case somebody will start an independen veterinary opticians store and if not Lenscrafter will start a new chain of Veterinay LC with designer products.

Frame manufacturers have a new angle asnd challenge.

How about Dr Andersons pouch and miau opticians, sounds kind a nice.

My vet uses a tonopen to test for glaucoma.

At VEE in New york this year a sales rep for a retinal photo camera told me they sell lots of the portable retinal camera to vets.
