    Ophthalmic lens availability resource

Is anyone aware of lens availability resources?

Frames is clearly the industry standard, right?

    Is there a cheaper way?

Do I have to link to each individual company's site?

    Is there a portal?

The Lens Product Guide from FramesData is the most comprehensive I've seen. Granted, it only comes out 2 or 3 times a year so it doesn't have the absolute latest - but your lab rep should be filling in those blanks anyway.

    You might try. . . .

www.lensmap.com . They used to offer a free 30 day trial. I've been using them for a couple of years now and at $25.00 a year I've found it to be useful and cost effective.

I have no ties to this company other than tha of an account. Good luck to you!!

What you looking for? As your needs arise, you can probably just post here. It's probably faster that looking up in the frames lens book. I've still not gotten used to the new book design.

Nice Find! I've noticed that since we switched our FramesData subscription over to the SpexUPC CD, we no longer get the Lens book. Might just need to talk the doctor into this.

    drk and All Optiboarders,

I have been developing a web site for the past several months with a searchable database of PAL's. The official launch date is a few weeks away but you might wanna check it out.

    http://www.thelensguru.com/startSearch.php

Although the site is still being developed, all of the search functions are available and working. Just navigate the Search links provided.

My goal is to eventually have categories for all lens types, but I thought PAL's were the best place to start. I was planning on posting here in the next few days to announce it, but drk's post seems to beg for an alternative to the printed catalogue, which is exactly the reason I developed the site in the first place.

Check it out and let me know what you think.
    Tony

    Tony,

I love it, it's a great resource and I like the idea. I will list it in my search engine.
