Can the edges of Trivex or Trilogy be frosted?

Trivex looks pretty clear and shiney when it comes off our dry-cut edger. I've got a patient who really likes the high Abbe value without the extreme thickness of his Rx in CR39 with his large frame, but does not like the near-polished edge look with Trivex.

Does anybody know a way to haze the edge so it appears frosted?

    Thanks!

    -Steve

Take some 400 sandpaper fold it nice to small area and slightly sand the surface and you have un-polished your bevel.

We use a fine emery board nail file to take off the shine. Make sure whoever does it has a steady hand.

try the 1.6 offered by Sola, Essilor and others. I think it is M-8? Abbe of 42 (comparable to Trivex), thinner, and fun to groove.

But not nearly as light - Trivex specific gravity is 1.098 while MR-8 specific gravity is 1.32 - equal to that of CR39. MR-8 minimum thickness is 1.5 while Trivex can go as thin as 1.0. So a Trivex lens is going to substantially lighter than a comparable 1.6 MR-8 lens, just about as thin, have better tensile strength and much more impact resistance. Trivex also has less reflected light (8.7%) compared to MR-8 (10.4%).

Now as for taking that sheen off the edges of a Trivex lens, I keep a roll of fining pads (CR39, second fine) for jobs like this. Just peel off one of the petals and fold it in half. A steady hand helps of course. :bbg:

No, then you just clamp the lens in a soft vise and vibrate yourself on the edge.:bbg:

I just peel off a petal and stick it to my finger. You have better control that way.

Yeah...I'll do that if it's a groove mount - if it's a beveled edge I fold it in half so the petal is a bit more rigid.
