What is the difference between Hi index plastic (1.66 index) and polycarbonate lenses? At what Rx should you used either?

I knew a licensed optician from Ontario (one of the strictest licensing) and she did not know the difference between 1.6 and 1.67 as far as thickness goes. She was in the industry for 30 years too.
Sometimes they have been sheltered, sometimes their question is just not clear enough. For instance, maybe the poster meant "How much difference there is in the thickness and when do you suggest using one over the other?" I can tell you that many of us have different answers for that.
Of course there is always the solution of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." I mean we are all professionals.
The person is new, and the 2 posts that have been posted are very basic questions, and the person is from NY, which is a licensed state. All this together leads me to believe that they are a consumer, but then again I may be a consumer? Or an [glowo=black]Elf[/glowo]?Originally Posted by For-Life
