How long do you have to apprentice in Pennsylvania before you can take the ABO exam? I ordered the set of books to study from The National Academy of Opticianry to study ahead of time.

    Thanks,
    Christine

No time requirements in PA Christine. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Good luck. Say hello to all the folks in Title Town.

    Christine:
Pennsylvania has nothing to do with it. It's a non-license state. When I took the original ABO back in the '60s, you had to show 5 years experience. But now, the basic ABO is an entry level exam, so I assume the 5 year waiting period has been shortened. Contact the OAA in Annandale, VA. They can tell you is indeed there's any waiting period at all any more. It can't be more than two years.
