    Mac OS holes

Oh, no! Looks like the Mac OS has some security holes that need patched! I thought they were perfect and never needed anything like this.

Thanks for the information. As a note, you can set up your Mac so that it checks for these sort of updates and others daily, weekly, monthly. Or, you can manually update your computer each day.
    :)

Just Like PC - NOT - LOL

    Just like a PC - ?> NOT !!! LOL

In fact - yes - like windows update yo can have it check for the updates - but in context - "Just like a PC " in reguards to os x and windows
all of us - as mac users have to chuckle or actually crack up laughing -
when in fact - you can never put - mac is just like a pc - together - since windows is really a system set up on a tons of flaws - that consistantly needs patches - fixes - and more updates - IF THEY WOULD JUST OPEN UP THE CODE a bit - and not try to protect it liek Fort Knocks - I AM SURE more then half their problems would go away - Its funny - since you see time and time again - the systm is very unstable and has tons of holes - and not very secure -

It was amazing to me - i had to just do another re-install of XP - for a friend of mines PC - and it amazed me - how many updates needed to be performed to get it up to the latest version - ( there was 64 critical right off the bat ) and then a few more after that - I just had to chuckle - since this was the 3rd time - in just over 2 yrs she had to re install her OS -

I was wondering - how many folks on the board- currently uses Os X - and wether they use it for personal use - or at their job - ?
our Dr uses office mate - and for what i could recall - he could not run it on his older mac - and as you all know - vitual oc could get you buy - it was horribel to work with - and extremely SLOW -

Also - i have read that you can load Vista - just like Xp - with out many issues with its operation - Has anyone installed Vista Yet ?
I was excited when i was finally able to get my new laptop - and have it able to run XP as well as OS X -- but all in all - i prob. used it less then 4 times - since i recieved it -
i wonder what the old winodws users will be saying now sincw there old justification for not getting a mac was - " oh macs - you can't run - or do what you can on windows - " and therefore it is not a good choice for an OS- ( that of coarse was before the intel chips came out - well as i stated - I really never need to use XP installed on my MacBook Pro -

how many times have you used your windows that you installed on your mac ?
also - does anyone have any info on the long awaited release of lepoard ? I have been holding off on purchasing my 2nd mac - so i can get teh new release of OS X - ( just hoping to save the 100 bucks on the update ) - by waiting till it was released and shipping on their new systems
    - i had a feeling that they where waiting for Vista to be released - and then go for the sale of their new OS X -
Anyone have any -info - OR LETS SAY RUMORS ?

    thanks -

    bt

Currently running OS 10.4.8 on my iBook G4 (personal computer) and also on our other assortment of Macs as well.. All are running like a champ without ANY problems what so ever!

Husband has the new Mac Book Pro, I think he opened windows once on the machine and hasn't used it since.

When opening a business of my own and there is Optical software available for the Mac, that is all that will be in my store.. MAC, MAC and more MAC's :D

Got the laugh I was looking for.:D:D

One problem that MS has indeed. But then again there are more people looking for those holes and loads of people that know nothing about how to close them.

Wow - must be one of those aforementioned users. We have 8 puters here, all running XP for, well, since XP came out. So far, I've had to do one reinstall due to a virus one of my (former) opticians allowed on one puter surfing porn afterhours. Mostly they run for weeks before I have to restart them due to some update. I've found them all to be very stable. Of course, I have much stripped out of XP that is useless, and have few of the crappy apps that a lot of home users use that actually open up more holes.

After getting our new version of Medisoft installed in December (which the tech definitely said WAS Vista compatible) I upgraded to Vista Ultimate on two puters. It went painlessly on one ( had to download two mobo drivers - meh) and the other one was very much less than painless. However, Medisoft turns out to be NOT Vista ready yet. So I had to restore the disk image I had taken before upgrading and is now happy with XP. The one that was difficult is now running Vista perfectly, now I gotta find out how to strip the useless crap out.

I was excited when i was finally able to get my new laptop - and have it able to run XP as well as OS X -- but all in all - i prob. used it less then 4 times - since i recieved it -

Now that the Macs use PC hardware they really are a competitor, especially since they got bailed out by M$.

***** You are right about - there are more peopel looking for holes in windows then those loking for ones on os X -- but don't you feel the more open - and more eyes looking at a situation is a good thing ? MS is always so scared of openign things up- and you know how they are with everything under lock and key- I don't think they should need to worry as much as they do - they have the market already - I did have to laugh at the recent talks Bill Gates has been giving about Computer Security - this should keep him busy for awhile -

****I doubt that she is into porn - or anything - but who knows if she was always on top of virus software - firewalls - ect - But i think she was - i will give yo that XP - is much better ( stable platform then prev windows versions) -

******I do find it amazing - that it took MS SO MANY YEARS - and PROLONGING the Vista release - and when it finally comes out - MANY ( NOT ALL ) fetures mimic those already found in OS X -

***Found a interesting artical - that you may want to take a look at - and this is actually written by PC people - not mac folks -

I to am excited to see how -= macs will or will not take off in the market - at least it can be measured equally - apples - for apples - lol
but you must admitt - that apple has the market on new products - MS is very good at copying and sellign it - LOL

    have a great week -

There must be something to love with the Mac. After all they have managed to capture five percent of the home market and zero percent of the corporate 1000 market in the past 20 years.

that has to do with other things. It is not used in the corporate World, because up until recently it did not use Windows. If you are going to develop an informations system structure, you have to use compariable functions. As for the home, it has to do more with lack of knowledge about it, content with current things, and less expensive alternatives.

I argue that most homes do not need what the Mac has to offer.
