    Painting groove on rimless

I've heard about people painting the groove on semi-rimless or rimless lenses, what kind of paint do you use that won't damage the raw material of the lens? Does this actually look good?

The groove is recessed and painting it without painting the the whole edge will look terrible.

You can paint the edge of CR39 with anything you want it will not damage the material. If you want to do it on poly you have to do it with a product that is fully compatible with the poly material otherwise you start a chemical reaction that might craze the lens.

Yes, groove painting looks awesome! We use primarily trivex and 1.6 for rimless jobs, so no problems or issues with the paint.

We used to do groove painting on the old facet frames. We'd groove them near the back, paint them, facet them and assemble them. That gave you an extra trim to the finished job. I could see where thick paint might decrease the depth available for the nylon to recess into though, so you might need to groove a bit deeper, but then the groove can be seen too much from the front.

We also used to paint grooves on rimless eyewear, but, as Dragon points out, it should not be done with nylor eyewear. To acheive the same effect with nylor, simply re-string with a line colour of your choice.

Rather than going through the hassle of trying to paint the groove, I just use colored fillament line.

If you just have clear cord, you can toss it in the dye pot.

Fezz.. some frames, even in the last couple years, came with different color string.

Why would you want to call attention to what you were trying to make invisible in the first place? I have only seen colored nylon used (you can dye it in your tint unit). I don't think it looks good but to each their own.
