Blue Jumper Frame display that may discourage shoplifting!

Seems latley our store is being picked on by shoplifters. We have the Sunglasses in locked cases and there is no problem their. The ophthalmic collection especially the designers name product are the ones showing up missing. We have closed circuit cameras and we did get pisctures of one group that hit us a few weeks ago. Our current display fixture is a clear acrylic rod with removable clips the frames rest on. I was wondering if any one had seen or has ideas on displays that still allows the patient to see the frames but perhaps not remove them from the display till a optician is assisting them. Currently when we are busy the patient can try frames on while being left unattended which obviously is where the problem is. Usually we are missing frames after a rush period where patients have been looking at frames and no one is there to keep them honest. Looking for ideas..thanks

This may not help, but I know of a company here in Australia that sells a diaplay rack that looks very similar to the standard rack that you have, but locks the frame by the bridge so they can't be taken off the rack.

I will see if I can at least get a brand name for you to work on and get back to you.

    shoplifting deterrant

It may be a little costly at first, but if you got the frame bar boxes (similar to what they put on clothes, but smaller) it may deter them as they will have to break it to get it off. Also, I think you can get some that claim to have ink in them and may work better!

    Although, if a camera doesn't work-I don't know what will!:hammer:

    Shoplifting

Place a monitor where all can see that they are on camera (doesn't matter if you record or not), you problem will go away.

    Lightbulb Maybe an answer?

    Mark,

I spoke to the suppliers here about the lockable display I was telling you about earlier, & they said you should probably be able to source something there, but if you get in contact with Andrew Stevenson at the the supplier here astevenson@charmant.com.au

Andrew said he will be able to steer you in the right direction.

    Good Luck.

    Some more cannon fodder!

The problem with lockable displays is that it also discourages the customer from trying on frames. You might be able to access a reasonably priced electronic tag system with an exitway that signals if the tag is not removed.Justifiying the expense would depend on what your shoplifting losses were.I noticed while clothes shopping last weekend, that one store had a buzzer alarm system when you entered the fitting rooms.Perhaps the installation of an electric eye which would emit a sound (not necessarily harsh) every time a frame was lifted off the display. At least it would alert the floor staff that someone was removing a frame.

There is one positive note on shoplifters :D They will tell you whats popular in styles, assisting you in your buying habits!:)

A cheap deterrent would be to put post things by the doors, that look like alarms. Only you will know they don't work, and you won't have the actual hassle and expense of alarming all the stock. It won't put everyone off, but it should stop some.

Stick out tongue The NRA Defense

I once concidered (did not use though) having a brown stain on the carpet with a small printed note/arrow stating: "Our last shoplifter." But really once I got the cameras and had the monitor in plain view of the customers, my problem went away.
