    Question about storing personal eyewear

I have put together a nice eyewear wardrobe like most in the optical field.

I'm interested in hearing about any cool storage solutions anyone has come across.

Yes, I have the vendor cases but rarely put the "correct" glasses in the "correct" case ... and sometimes, I'll find a vendor with multiple styles I like so I have more than one of a vendor's case.

I'm not looking so much for something for travel (although, that would come in handy) but something for at home so I don't have eyewear in 2 different rooms.

In my current position, I don't see vendor catalogues but I could probably have one of the opticians "loan" me one to view -

So, does anyone here have any suggestions?

    Thanks ~

    Karen

One of the frame bag sleeves would work well. There are many configurations available and they are very affordable. Check out www.northgatecases.com and see what they have.

My Mom made a sort of mini shoe bag for me. It hangs from a dowel and can hold about 20 pair.

I second the rep trays. That's what myself and my husband do.

    My wife and I . . . .

have an old Polo counter rotator that holds 50 frames and its full. I like the rotator though since it takes very little space.

    Good luck to you!!

    For Shame! :finger:
What if someone came over and looked in your bedroom? They wouldn't have a chance to notice the exceedingly large collection you have!:D

Large collection of what? ;) But really my personal eyewear collection is not that large. I have two current frames that I wear and two pair of sunglasses. The rest are retired and waiting to be resurrected or given away. I am very picky about what I wear and when I finally choose a frame it becomes part of my face for a few years. Plus, I wear a Varilux Hi Index Crizal lens and even with a pretty good discount it isn't cheap. However I am waiting for the new Gucci line with great anticipation. I have a feeling there will be something to love. Just pulled out my coupon for a complimentary pair of Physios. Naturally it expired last year. Sigh...

    Coco-
I was just teasing, because deep down I know we all love knowing we have way too many pairs of glasses - so much so that we have to come up with storage solutions for them!
My husband (optician) has tons of glasses. I, however, like you wear very expensive lenses (very myopic) and don't have but a couple I'll wear. Also, switching from one store to another often forces me to retire one since I try to wear something we can sell.

    eyewear wardrobe

Lenny has the right Idea- an old Davis tower carries 271 frames!! I have two old AO frame boards that would carry 90 frames and would cost a fortune to ship out there. I am a bit of a dumpster diver and have found a wonderful rotating display for sunglasses in back of a pharmacy. I also told an optician I knew about 2 beautiful optical displays being thrown out by Rite-Aide here in my town and he had both in his pickup truck that day and used them for several years. Ask your local pharmacys or dollar stores if they are getting rid of any rotating opitcal displays and you may be surprised at the response.

hmmm... I don't think I need a rotating tower (I don't have quite THAT big of collection ;) .... yet LOL) but I was thinking of something that I could put in my drawer, with an open top or clear lid, maybe velvet lined or something to protect the eyewear (not "hard" and "scratchy") that maybe would hold 5-10 pairs at a time ... ???

Mine are stored wherever I happened to last put them down.... which coincidentally happens to be the last place I look when I am trying to find them again.

    Try a craft store

I was at Michaels last weekend and saw a case that had sections w/ a clear lid. The wood was dark and the lining was soft felt maybe. It was wood and I think it was for watches or pens. I looked like you could fit eyeglasses in there.
I have a Steppers display, it has a drawer on the bottom and is just like I discribed above. I love it, it sits on top of my dresser and I always know where my glasses are. I only switch between 4 pair, but does anyone else try to match thier outfit with frames or is that just me...;)

I have a very systematic approach to storing my eyewear.

The white Face a Face are beside my bathroom sink.

The brown/turquoise Eyewitness as well as the black Chrome Hearts are on my beside table.

The royal blue Eyewitness are on my eating bar.

The grey/red Face a Face are on top of my TV.

My Ic! Berlin sunglasses are in my messenger bag.

I left my Oakleys at my brother's house.

And my clear Prodesign on on my face.

    See, easy!

Thanks for the lead on this ... sounds very promising ... and yes, I try to match ... I'm a "matcher" ... LOL :p
