    Arrow ARE Freeforms less forgiving?

I just received my new Kodak Unique lenses 2 weeks ago and I thought my new Rx was too strong. Distance and near were both worse than my previous Physio glasses. After the Rx check was O.K. , I checked the fitting lines and noticed that they were not dead straight. After loosning the eyewire screws and twisting the lenses dead straight, I experienced the Wow reaction that that my patients had been getting. Distance , near and intermediate are all wider and clearer and dim light vision is better. Has anyone else noticed this unforgiveness? Bob Taylor

I've noticed such things with even the Physio and the P360. Either that, or my patients are the pickiest people on earth! LOL
Seriously, though. I had a pt in the P360 who "couldn't see..." Doc and I checked them over and the only thing that was remotely off was the PD in one eye by a very small amount (like half a mm). Remade them, changed the axis a tad bit (low cyl power-change was within ANSI tolerance) and Presto, patient is happy!

This lack of "forgiveness" seems pretty expensive.

    Great freeform lens designs work

The extent and type of optimization in freeform lenses varies greatly.

Any optician can make a great progressive lens impossible to use by incorrect fitting information.

Any lab can make a great progressive lens impossible to use by not properly fitting the lens to the frame as ordered.

On top of this you put in the "special solutions" like bumping the add etc.

The ability to use a very high quality progressive slightly misfitted increases compared to a Traditional molded front side PAL. With greater usable lens area and a wider channel the slight errors in measurement or lens fitting will be more easily accomodated.

Just because a lens was made using a freeform process does not mean it has all of the benefit possible. It depends on the design.
