Speaking for the attendees of the chat room, Steve Machol, Jo, Laurie C, and Suzy W, and myself Alan W . ..
I am proud to announce the formation of The Opticians Council of America, a cyber organization. In concept our mission is to create public demand for quality, accredited opticians, through a grass roots marketing campaign.
Our strategic intent is to facilitate action that will increase the effectiveness of the academic and legislative organizations that work so hard in our professional community.
We hope to draw increased attention to the politicians with a message that the public is now fully aware of the need to act with greater urgency and that it has increased expectations of the need for more opticians with certification.
Steve will be working on a plan to reach out to the public and will be discussing with us at the next meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday evening @ 6pm June 3.
The meeting is opened to all. We need volunteers for assignments that have not yet been created. Your constructive and creative input is desired.
Things moved quickly with the attendance we had. There was debate and all was handled very professionally. As the attendance grows, there may be a need for structuring of the cybermeetings. Also, as task forces are developed to implement the plan to be created, independent chat rooms can be created to allow for more targeted action.
We are not limited to how many meetings can be conducted over a period of time. That's the beauty of cybermeetings. Action can happen real quick this way.
Officers have not been selected, and it is possible that traditional structuring may be replaced with quality work groups with coordinators. No discussion has been made on this issue, organizational discussions will need to be started eventually. We are not a philosophical organization. We are a task force with objectives to be met.
I suspect that next Sunday we will have some solid action to take. And, this will be an opportunity for folks with special skills, connections, and interests etc. to come forward.
If there are questions, please email me at specsupport@ev1.net
Folks . . . it's happening!
