You are being compensated for suffering the internet. Sounds fine to me. By the way, what's your PIN number on your bank card? ;)

    Sounds legit to me!

Of course, I'm still waiting on the 8 million my second couisin-in-law thrice removed left me from his oil ventures in Timbuktu. I mean, I gave the "barrister" my SSN and bank acct. info, so any day now I'm gonna have a happy new year!

You want to have some real fun, give them some bogus info and keep calling. I have a VOIP provider that allows me to call parts of europe as part of my calling plan, so I call them and keep harrasing them. Tell them they must have written down a wrong number in your bank routing number, then give them a totally different one than you gave before, or give them a SS# with like 15 digits and keep insisting that it is genuine. I once had a guy from nigeria overnight me 8 seperate checks for a item I was selling on ebay that he wanted me to cash and then send him back the difference. I kept telling him I didn't recieve the checks and their must be a problem with the mail. I think it totaled up to around $150.00 in postal charges for him to find out that I was stringing him along and it was a load of fun.

This is called "Scambaiting". BE CAREFUL when you do anything like this. The people you are dealing with are criminals. Yes the possibility that they would find you and do anything to you are rather small, but still you shouldn't take that chance.

For more on info on scambaiting, see

    http://www.419eater.com/

They give good advice there and have people who can show you how to harass the scammers while remaining untracable to them. If you don't want to take the time to learn how to do this, then it is best to leave it alone!

I gotta admit the idea came from some guy who has a blog that does it pretty often.

    Sorry John,

I have never lived the scared life, these crooks are not the scary type to begin with but even if they were ,they would have better luck barking up another tree if they are looking to scare someone. Thanks for the concern though.

Please understand Harry I am posting not only for you, but also for others that might be reading this.

The precautions you need to take to remain untraceable are not that hard to do, and the people at the 419eater link I gave before can show you how to do it. Then you can scambait all you want without any worries.

When I was a kid, I knew another kid who never looked when he crossed a street. He just ran full speed across. Did this for 2 years before he finally got hit.

At the site whose link I gave above, I read a story about a guy who baited a scammer via e-mail, using his computer at work. It's a good thing he used a fake name, because some people showed up at his workplace asking for him by his "baiting" name. They tracked his IP address to his workplace. If he had done it from home, there could have been trouble.

Just because your blogging friend never had a problem, doesn't mean he is doing it safely.

It's not a question of being "scared", it's a question of learning how to do a thing correctly. Someone who doesn't want to take the time to learn how to do it correctly shouldn't do it at all.
