importance of refractive index

hey all

i need help on an assignment i've been given at uni..

we need to write about the importance of refractive index. i kno that it makes lenses thinner and therefore lighter n weight but then the higher the index the more chromatic abberations that would be experienced. therefore you would use an antireflection coating to reduce the chromatic abberation effects.
