Confused extreme myopia - lens options

    Hi Everyone,

for a prescription of OD -12.75 -1.75 x25 and OS -15.00 -2.00 x160 I went with a 1.67 index in a moderately small frame 44x29mm lens size and made out quite well [except for price!] with the actual lens thickness being OD 6.7 max 2.30 min OS 7.9 max 2.15 min.
Now however this prescription climbed to OD -13.50 -2.00 x25 OS -15.50 -200 x155 but the options on the market also increased, with 1.75 index approved.
SO my question to you - using these numbers can anyone calculate/project the actual thickness I can anticpate for every index from 1.67 thru 1.75 ??

    Wink Roughly Thinner by 10%

Generally 1.74 is thinner than 1.67 by 10 to 15 percent on the same Rx. Since the Rx has not increased by much. I think you should be expecting the lens to be thinner by just around 10 percent.

Some suggestions for you to make the glasses look nicer! (maybe you've already known)

    1. adjust the bevel positions to make lenses forward a bit.

    2. do feathering on both front and back sides.

    3. pull the nose pads (if applicable) before lens insertion because it might scratch the lens or against it.

    4. Edge polish.

    5. Move up the OC if necessary to hide the most thinckest points. (axis at 25 and 160 should be fine.)

By the way, I mainly work in asian's community. I encountered a lot of high myopes. Wait until you meet -23.50......

Get contacts they are thin and you will see a whole lot better, even to the sides of things.

    ICE-TECH option

ICE-TECH can supply such an Rx in 1.67 MR-10. We also can produce this with an optical zone large enough for the patient to have great vision and then use our Thin-ICE process to reduce the lens thickness.

I believe we could deliver this lens with about a 5mm edge thickness. With an optical zone that only limits the temple side of the lens by 3 to 4 mm you would save about 1/3 of the traditional lens thickness.

These lenses will be digitally surfaced and produce a great finished product.

I will speak as a "consumer" of Ice-Tech that Awtech speaks of. I have only used them for a few jobs so far. The one high minus(-18+) was fantastic. I hope that there ideas and technologies take off. I truly believe that what they offer....IS...what this business will become in the future. Total customization.

*I dont profit from the above statement*
